West Sand Lake Fire Department

West Sand Lake Fire Department The West Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Company was the third rural volunteer fire company to be established in Rensselaer County, New York. Founded in 1872.

The fire department is made up of 3 organizations:

The Fire Company, which is made up of the active, inactive, associate and life members of the fire department. These are the firefighters and EMT's! They do fundraising, respond to alarms and are always training and learning new skills. Members are as young as 16, and as old as their 80's! The Ladies' and Junior Axillary, which was founded as a s

ub committee of the fire company with the intent of being an organization for the fire fighter's wives to do fund raising and other activities to support the fire fighters. Times have changed, and many of our Ladies are now active fire fighters and EMT's, and some of our fire fighters help the ladies with their fundraising. Members are as young as 14 and have been as old as their 90's. The Fire District, which is the government entity. The Fire Commissioners are elected to the Board for 5 year terms by the voters of the fire district. They meet once a month and are responsible for ensuring fire protection to the taxpayers, and ensuring the firefighters have the tools, buildings and equipment they need to protect the taxpayers, at a cost the tax payers can afford. The Fire District is supported by two paid employees, the treasurer, and the secretary. The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring the Fire District adheres to local, state and national finance laws. She also keeps track of the finances and pays the bills approved for payment by the commissioners. The Secretary is responsible for the official records of the district, including communications, correspondence and a written record of ALL meetings. She also acts as checks and balances with the treasurer insuring the bills get paid and keeping track of the checks, invoices or purchase orders issued. They are the ONLY paid employees of the fire district.

Today, the members of the West Sand Lake Fire Department would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, and mother figures in our community and beyond.

To the moms who hold families together, who cheer from the sidelines, who stay up late worrying, who answer the phone no matter the hour, and who somehow always know how to make everything better — today is for you.

We also want to recognize the mothers who serve alongside us in the fire service and EMS world. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting behind the scenes, or balancing family life with the demands of volunteering, your dedication does not go unnoticed.

And to the families of our members — thank you. Every time the pager tones, you share your loved ones with the community. Your support, patience, and sacrifice are a huge part of what makes volunteer fire service possible.

From all of us at the West Sand Lake Fire Department, we hope your day is filled with love, laughter, appreciation, and maybe even a little peace and quiet.

Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️🚒

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (FOR THE GUYS) 🚨

This is your friendly, slightly urgent reminder that Mother’s Day is THIS Sunday.

Yes… this Sunday. Not next week. Not “I’ve got time.” Not “I’ll figure it out Saturday night at 9:47 PM while standing in a half-empty CVS aisle.”

We’re talking about the person who:
• Knows where everything is in the house (including the thing you just asked about while standing next to it)
• Keeps the wheels on the bus—emotionally, logistically, and sometimes literally
• Somehow functions on minimal sleep, maximum chaos, and a coffee that’s been reheated 3 times

👉 Gentlemen… this is not the day to “wing it.”

Pro Tips:
• Flowers are good. Alive is better.
• A card with actual words written in it = elite level effort
• Breakfast in bed is great… just don’t destroy the kitchen getting there
• “What do you want to do today?” is NOT a plan

And for the love of everything holy—do not say, “You’re not my mom.”
(You may not survive that one.)

Bottom line:
Step it up. Show some appreciation. Make her feel like the absolute rockstar she is every single day—especially this Sunday.

You’ve been warned. 👀
