Regarding the override for Bellingham, please understand why it is needed:
The reasons for this deficit for the schools is not because of the mismanagement of funds. It has to do with less funding from the state, increased health care costs, increased transportation rates, and increased special needs costs. You can see all the slides from the meeting at the town website.
If the override passes, the increase to property taxes will be $299 a YEAR based on an average house of $400,000 value. That’s $25 a month or .82 cents a day. I understand that people are on fixed budgets, but that does not seem like an unreasonable ask considering what the return on investment would be (the betterment of our next generation). Besides 37 teachers being let go and that severely effecting the children’s education, and no sports will also be detrimental since these kids rely on them as an outlet to regulate their mental health. I believe that voting no will be very detrimental to our town as a whole.
