Yesterday, Officer Thamiris Ribeiro was honored at the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony as the recipient of the “Rookie of the Year” award. Officer Ribeiro received an incredible 11 nominations in recognition of her professionalism, compassion, and outstanding service to the community early in her career as a police officer.

Among the many examples highlighted in her nominations was Officer Ribeiro’s response to a residential fire earlier this year. Arriving on scene during a rapidly developing emergency, Officer Ribeiro immediately assisted a resident who was unaware flames were spreading through the home. Her calm demeanor, quick decision-making, and compassion during a chaotic situation helped ensure the resident received assistance during one of the most difficult moments of their life.

Officer Ribeiro has consistently demonstrated the qualities that define exceptional public service. Whether responding to emergencies, assisting victims, or engaging with members of the community, she approaches every call with professionalism, empathy, and dedication.

We want to congratulate Officer Ribeiro on this well-deserved recognition and thank the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement for recognizing the important work being done by women in policing across the Commonwealth.

Last week, Officer Nicole Sandell attended the grand reopening ceremony for the Walmart on May 8th. During the event, the Bellingham Police Department was honored to receive a $1,500 grant that will be used to support and enhance our youth-focused programs throughout the year, including our annual summer camp.
