51,063 wildfires have burned more than 7.8 million acres across the country so far this year — 129% of the ten-year average for fires and 166% for acres. The nation has been holding at Preparedness Level 5, the highest readiness level there is, for over a month now, and all ten geographic areas are reporting large fires. Our medics have been deployed since spring and they are still out there today, working alongside the crews on some of the hardest ground in the country. This is the work we train for and the people we train with. To every community still living under this: we’re with you. ✌️❤️🤙🏼

Prehospital Ultrasound Academy | Bend, Oregon | October 26-28, 2026

Three days at Lava Rock Ranch, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, and 24 hours of CE. You will work through ultrasound physics, image acquisition and interpretation across pulmonary, focused cardiac, carotid, eFAST and trauma assessments, with hands-on scanning time throughout. All equipment is provided.

This one is built for EMS providers who want advanced point-of-care ultrasound skills they can actually use in austere and prehospital environments, where the scan happens on the floor of a moving rig and not in a quiet imaging suite.

Led by Drew Congdon, BASc, FP-C, CCP-C, a nationally recognized educator and pioneer in prehospital ultrasound education.

46,636 fires and more than 6.4 million acres burned so far this year — more acres by this date than any of the past seven years, and nearly double where we stood at this point in 2025. Our crews are deployed across the West and they haven’t slowed down since April. But a season like this isn’t a win for anybody. Behind every one of those acres is a community, a summer, a livelihood. We’re grateful to work alongside the people responding to it, and we’re thinking about everyone living through it. ✌️❤️🤙🏼

A different side of fire season. While our wildland crews have been out since April, the other half of our world has gotten a little quieter. Trail races cancelled. Festivals called off. Events postponed with no reschedule in sight. Smoke and closures don’t just move fire crews around — they close down the small, family-run races and gatherings that a lot of people pour their whole year into. We’ve stood on those start lines for years. We know how much heart goes into pulling these events off. To every organizer staring down a cancelled season right now: we see you, we’re rooting for you, and we’ll be there at the next start line.

Wilderness First Responder | Bend, Oregon | October 12-20, 2026

Nine consecutive days at Lava Rock Ranch, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, moving from classroom foundations into progressive hands-on skills practice and realistic scenario-based training outdoors. You will learn to conduct a thorough physical exam, obtain a patient history, assess vital signs, provide emergency care in the wilderness, and make crucial evacuation decisions.

This one is built for guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor recreationists and international travelers, anyone who works or recreates where access to medical care is delayed and communication is unreliable. The outdoor portions run regardless of weather, so come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot.

Complete the coursework and pass the written and practical exams and you leave with your Wilderness First Responder certification plus AHA CPR-AED Heartsaver and Epinephrine certifications.

This WFR cert exceeds the Wilderness Medical Education Collaborative (WMEC) standards. Reciprocity supported by other organizations.

Nationwide there are 85 uncontained large fires with more than 27,000 firefighters and support personnel engaged, backed by 587 crews, 1,615 engines, and 200 helicopters. So far this year 43,264 fires have burned over 4.66 million acres, already exceeding the 10-year average for both fires and acres.
