Last week, Firefighter Tim O’Shea accepted a special recognition on behalf of the Binghamton Fire Department, as our Heart Cup Hockey team was named the Top Fundraising Team at the 2026 Southern Tier Heart Walk.

This year’s effort carried a deep personal significance for all of us. Just over a year ago, we suffered the devastating loss of Lieutenant Scott Pavlick, who passed away from a line-of-duty, heart-related event. Bringing home this award for the American Heart Association was our way of honoring Scott's memory, his legacy, and the profound impact he had on our department and community.

Tim was on hand to receive the plaque, which stands as a testament to the hard work our members put into this lifesaving mission both on and off the ice.

Thank you to Tim for accepting the award, to everyone who skated and contributed, and to our community for your unwavering support. We will always keep Scott's memory close to our hearts, and we fundraise to ensure fewer families have to experience this kind of loss.

Yesterday, our recruit class successfully completed the New York State Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT), another important milestone on their journey to becoming firefighters.

The CPAT is a demanding physical test designed to simulate the challenges firefighters face on the job. We're proud to report that every member of the class passed, with times ranging from an impressive 6:52 to 8:27—well under the required passing time of 10 minutes and 20 seconds.

Chief Edwards, Assistant Chief Dahulich, and Captain Broderick were on hand to support and encourage the recruits throughout the testing process.

Congratulations to all of the recruits on their hard work, dedication, and accomplishment. We look forward to watching them continue their training and development as they prepare to serve the residents of the City of Binghamton.

This morning, your Binghamton Fire Firefighters were called to provide mutual aid to Port Crane for an individual that had fallen approximately 25 feet into a creek.

The individual was believed to have fallen sometime late the previous evening and had been in the creek for many hours. The individual suffered several injuries due to his fall.
Due to the complex nature of removing the individual from the creek, our rescue technicians were requested, and we responded immediately.
The patient was packaged for removal and transport, and his injuries were treated and stabilized. The victim was then raised out of the creek bed and was transported to a local hospital.

Even though these types of rope rescues do not happen very often, the members of the Binghamton Fire Department train constantly for this type of incident.

There was great teamwork on the scene between several agencies and we all wish the victim a speedy recovery.

Binghamton Fire here for you 24/7/365.

Today marks one year since the line of duty death of our friend and brother, Scott Pavlick.

As we reflect on Scott’s life and legacy, we remember the positive impact he had on our department, our community, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Scott served the City of Binghamton for more than 17 years and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2023. He was a skilled firefighter who cared about the job, his crew, and the people he served. In the fire service, one of the highest compliments you can give someone is simply to say, “He’s a good firefighter,” and Scott embodied what that means.

Scott was quick with his jokes, never short on a wisecrack, and kept things light around the station. He was also a man of fierce conviction, never hesitating to speak up for his brothers and sisters or stand up for what he believed was right. He was a loyal friend, a dedicated firefighter, and someone who could always be counted on when it mattered most.

Above all, Scott was a devoted husband and father. Today, we remember him and keep Jodi, Reagan, and all of his family and friends in our thoughts.

We also look ahead to the Lt. Scott Pavlick Heart-Strong 5K and Festival, an event created to honor Scott’s memory and celebrate the impact he had on so many lives. Funds raised from the 5K will directly benefit the Lt. Scott Pavlick Memorial Fund to establish a foundation in his memory. We hope you’ll join us as we continue to remember a man who left a lasting mark on this department, the fire service, and the community he proudly served.

Never forgotten.

Thank you to Congressman Josh Riley and Mayor Kraham for bringing attention to the rising cost of fire apparatus and standing with firefighters on this important issue. Reliable, modern equipment is essential to protecting our community, and we appreciate their support in advocating for a fair and competitive marketplace that benefits both firefighters and taxpayers.

I stood with Binghamton firefighters and Congressman Josh Riley this week to call for a federal investigation into the skyrocketing cost of fire apparatus.

Since 2022, Binghamton has spent $5.7 million on fire trucks. And the prices keep climbing. Over the past decade, Wall Street firms bought up more than two dozen fire apparatus manufacturers and consolidated them into just three dominant companies. Less competition means higher prices, years-long wait times and older equipment staying in service.

This is what a monopoly looks like. And cities like Binghamton are paying for it.

The International Association of Fire Fighters has formally called on federal agencies to investigate these manufacturers for antitrust violations. I'm proud to stand with our local firefighter union, Binghamton Professional Firefighter's Association, and Congressman Riley in full support of that call.

Our firefighters deserve to show up to every call in equipment that works. Our taxpayers deserve a fair market — not Wall Street price gouging on fire trucks.

We have had several members of the public reach out recently to ask how they can best support the upcoming Lt. Scott Pavlick Heart-Strong 5K and Festival. If you are looking to get involved, you can use the link below to sign up for a volunteer slot:

A significant amount of time, effort, and coordination has gone into planning and preparing for the inaugural run and festival. While we have already received an overwhelming amount of support from our community, pulling off an event of this scale requires a strong collective effort on the ground.
Whether you choose to register for the 5K, attend the festival, or assist as a volunteer, your participation makes a direct impact. We need all the help we can get to ensure things run smoothly, not just to make this year successful, but to establish a strong foundation for years to come.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and dedication to keeping this tradition strong.
