We have had several members of the public reach out recently to ask how they can best support the upcoming Lt. Scott Pavlick Heart-Strong 5K and Festival. If you are looking to get involved, you can use the link below to sign up for a volunteer slot:

A significant amount of time, effort, and coordination has gone into planning and preparing for the inaugural run and festival. While we have already received an overwhelming amount of support from our community, pulling off an event of this scale requires a strong collective effort on the ground.
Whether you choose to register for the 5K, attend the festival, or assist as a volunteer, your participation makes a direct impact. We need all the help we can get to ensure things run smoothly, not just to make this year successful, but to establish a strong foundation for years to come.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and dedication to keeping this tradition strong.

The Binghamton Fire Department is proud to share Mayor Kraham's announcement appointing Assistant Chief Thomas P. Edwards as our next Fire Chief, effective June 1.
With 22 years of dedicated service to our city as a firefighter, paramedic, instructor, and officer, Chief Edwards brings incredible experience and leadership to the role. We look forward to moving the department forward under his command.
Please join us in congratulating Chief Edwards on his appointment to Chief of Department.

I'm happy to announce my appointment of Assistant Chief Thomas P. Edwards as Binghamton's next Fire Chief, effective June 1.

Tom is a 22-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department. In his more than two decades of service, he has built a track record as a highly competent leader with an unwavering commitment to public safety. He has climbed the ranks of the department, stepping into his first leadership role in 2008, when he was promoted to lieutenant. He was named a captain in 2016.

Tom has served as a New York State certified Fire Instructor since 2010, teaching classes to other first responders on live fire training safety, firefighter survival, hazmat response, incident command, rescue technician basics and more.

He became certified as a New York State paramedic in 2006 and served as Broome County Deputy Fire Coordinator from 2017 to 2022.

I am confident Tom will continue to lead the Fire Department with diligence, professionalism and fairness, prioritizing the safety of the Binghamton community.

Overnight, the Binghamton Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 22 Montgomery Street.
The dispatch was received at 2:55 AM from the Broome County Office of Emergency Services. First arriving crews encountered a two-story home with a working fire in the rear kitchen and heavy smoke conditions throughout the structure.
The crew from Engine 4 moved quickly to knock down the fire, while additional crews conducted primary searches of the home for potential occupants. During the search, firefighters successfully located and removed one dog from the second floor.
Thank you to the Binghamton Police Department, Superior Ambulance Service, Inc., and NYSEG for their assistance and support on the scene.

Your Binghamton Firefighters were called to 73 Moeller Street on the East Side yesterday afternoon for a working structure fire.

Upon arrival heavy smoke was showing from the upper floors and it was unknown if any residents were still inside.

Once inside we encountered heavy smoke, high heat conditions and zero visibility. Members pushed on despite the barriers searching for life and fire.

Suppression operations began along side search efforts and it was quickly determined that no one was inside the building.

No surrounding exposures were threatened so we could turn our full attention to the fire hiding through out the building.

We call the process of exposing hidden fire “overhaul”, and there was a tremendous need for it at this job, with many ceilings, walls, closets and knee walls needing to be opened up for extinguishment. Truly a tiring task for our members working under high heat conditions in little to no visibility, wearing 80 pounds of safety equipment.

We are happy to report that no occupants or firefighters were injured at this fire. The fire is still under investigation.

We’d like to thank our public safety partners at Superior Ambulance, the Binghamton Police Department, NYSEG, and Broome County emergency services dispatchers.

Binghamton Fire here for you 24/7/365.
