❗Broome County Office of Emergency Services is hosting a New York State Citizen’s Preparedness Corps Training that is OPEN and FREE to the public❗

🟩WHAT: With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. This training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.

On September 16th we held a volunteer recognition dinner to honor Office for Aging volunteers.

In 2025, our volunteers provided 37, 500 hours of service to the community!

Volunteers serve in our senior centers, offices, Yesteryears, Meals on Wheels, tax and medicare counseling, shopping and advisory councils.

-Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from all heat sources.
-Never use an oven to heat your home.
-Turn space heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.

Borrow a Grandparent Starting Tuesday, October 6!
Looking for a welcoming spot for your kids to wrap up the school day? Children of all ages are invited to visit the youth department to learn, play, and connect with a Foster Grandparent. Whether your child needs a little extra help or just wants a friendly face to hang out with, our Foster Grandparent is here to support them. Kids can drop in to:
📖 Work on homework with a patient helper.
📚 Read stories and practice their reading skills aloud.
🎨 Color and create arts and crafts.
♟️ Play a board game and enjoy some friendly competition.
Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 3 pm- 5 pm in the Youth Department
This program is a proud collaboration with the Broome County Office for Aging, bringing generations together right here in our community.
