This week's water tower is in the City of Washburn, North Dakota. Washburn is the oldest city in McLean County. The Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived at the Mandan-Hidatsa Indian villages on the Upper Missouri River on October 25, 1804 at present day Washburn. The city of Washburn was officially founded on November 1, 1882.

This week's water tower is in the City of Minto. Located in Walsh County, the town was established in 1881 and officially incorporated in 1883. The town was named for Minto, Ontario, because many of the original homesteaders and immigrants came from that area.

This week's water tower is in the City of Medina ND. Medina was founded in 1899, and is located in Stutsman County, north of I-94, Exit 230. People entering Medina are greeted by a mascot pelican painted on the water tower. This is because Medina is known as the “Gateway to Chase Lake."

This week's water tower is in the City of Garrison. Founded in 1903 by brothers Cecil and Theodore Taylor, Garrison moved to its current location when the Soo Line extended its tracks north. Incorporated in 1907, the city sits off Highway 83 between Minot and Bismarck, just north of Lake Sakakawea,

With Wally the Walleye, the designation of Walleye Capitol of the World came into inception. Many communities are claiming this title, but Garrison is sure to get you hooked!

Huge congratulations to our Executive Director, Eric Volk, on celebrating 24 years with NDRWSA!

Eric started with us in 2002 as a Training Specialist before stepping into the role of Executive Director in 2010. Since then, he has dedicated his career to advocating for rural and small community water systems across his home state of North Dakota.

Whether he's navigating a crowded conference hall or traveling to the furthest corners of the state, you never have to squint at a page to find him. Even without the red-and-white stripes, Eric is always right where he needs to be, supporting our communities.

Eric, thank you for over two decades of exceptional leadership and service. Here’s to many more!
