JRMU and Two Rivers Education students spent the afternoon creating festive pumpkins for the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Fall Festival on Saturday!

We’re incredibly thankful to the NDSU Extension - Stutsman County Office for providing space to create, and to our amazing community sponsors whose donated pumpkins helped bring the Pumpkin Walk to life.

One of our residents shared, “I’ve never carved pumpkins before,” and many said the afternoon made them feel like kids again. Moments like these remind us why community traditions matter.

We are excited to announce that Irene Akosah- Appiah has been selected as the HRCC Employee of the Month for August 2026!

Her nomination highlighted the incredible work she does: I would like to nominate Irene for Employee of the Month. Irene stepped up and covered my overnight shifts while a coworker was dealing with a family emergency. Her willingness to help on short notice demonstrates her dependability and readiness to support her coworkers when needed.

Congratulations to Robert Cummings on his selection as Commander of the Special Response Team (SRT). Robert’s impressive background includes 17 years of experience in law enforcement and has been a valued member of Parole, Probation, and Pretrial Services (PPPS) for the past two years.

Congratulations to Sergeant Bryan Mosolf who was selected as JRCC's Employee of the Month for September! Sgt. Mosolf was recognized for his outstanding leadership, professionalism, and dedication to JRCC. In addition to his duties as Sergeant, he frequently serves as Acting Lieutenant, Field Training Officer, PREA investigator, and instructor for Restraints and Grievance Procedure classes.

Sgt. Mosolf consistently goes above and beyond, supports his team, and approaches his responsibilities with fairness, accountability, and a strong work ethic. His commitment and positive attitude make him a tremendous asset to B-Shift, the 3rd Floor team, and JRCC.

Back to School Celebration for Children of Incarcerated Parents – August 15 at JRCC

We had an unforgettable day bringing families together for our Back-to-School event at JRCC! Families enjoyed lunch and root b**r floats while reconnecting and making new memories. Outside, kids and dads played games, laughed, and spent meaningful time together.

Every child left with a backpack filled with school supplies—reminders that their fathers support them and believe in their success as they head into the new school year.

One father shared that this was the best day he’s had since coming to prison. For the first time, he was able to throw a football with his teenage kids—a moment they’ll all carry forward.

A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible community and Thrivent Action Team!

Your generous donations of backpacks and school supplies made this entire event possible. Because of you, every child left with the tools they need to start the school year feeling supported, encouraged, and seen. Your compassion truly made a difference.

We love hearing how the Breaking the Cycle Grant is being put to work across North Dakota, especially when it supports programs that help families stay connected.

At Barnes County Correctional Center, grant dollars the Breaking the Cycle grant helped bring the "Bridging Relationships Through Reading" program to life. The program gives incarcerated parents the opportunity to build or maintain relationships with their children through something as simple as sharing a book.

Parents and their children receive the same book, along with a phone card to FaceTime and read together at no cost. It’s a chance to connect, share a positive experience and create memories, no matter their age or distance.

"We acknowledge that by connecting justice involved individuals with their family that we can lower their risk in reoffending in the future," said Carrie Carmichael, Barnes County Correctional Center Reentry Program Coordinator. "Our goal with this program is to instill hope, rekindle relationships, and provide inmates with the opportunity to interact with their children in a positive way!"

As we recognize Children of Incarcerated Parents Day, this is a great example of what family connection can look like. Supporting relationships between parents and children can help strengthen families, give parents hope and support successful reentry.

Governor Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed today Children of Incarcerated Parents Day in North Dakota, recognizing the challenges children face when a parent is incarcerated and the importance of maintaining family connections.

Family matters. Supporting children and helping families stay connected is an important part of building healthy, productive neighbors and a safe North Dakota.
