Bingham County Mayors Scholarship | Blackfoot, ID

Applications are still being accepted for the 2020 Bingham County Mayors Scholarship. All applications should be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on March 10, 2020. They can be dropped off or mailed to City of Blackfoot, ATTN: Mayors Scholarship, 157 N Broadway, Blackfoot, ID 83221, or dropped off to your high school counselor. Applications can be found online at www.cityofblackfoot.org/mayors-scholarship.

This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors residing or attending any school in Bingham County who plan on continuing their education at any accredited college/university, including technical and vocational programs. Selections will be made by contributing sponsors and committee members.

All scholarships will be awarded at the Bingham County Mayors Scholarship Awards Gala on April 30, 2020, at the Nuart Theater, 195 N Broadway, in Blackfoot. The doors will open at 6:00 pm. This year’s event is being hosted by the City of Blackfoot.

We are grateful for the many generous donors who contribute to this effort. No donation is too small or unimportant – your donation will ensure this multi-community commitment to our high school graduates continues by make an amazing difference for these deserving students. So that you are aware...due to a concern expressed by a City resident, Officials examined the US flags that are normally placed Downtown in honor or President's Day, and it was determined that the flags are not in a condition to be displayed. As such, 200 new flags have been ordered, but they will not arrive in time to be displayed on Monday, February 17.

City of Blackfoot Mayor, Marc Carroll, has announced that he will host monthly open microphone sessions to be held prior to City Council meetings. The goal of these open ‘mic’ sessions is to provide a forum for citizens to share comments, ask questions and discuss matters of concern with Mayor Carroll.

The first meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 PM on Tuesday February 4, 2020, in City Hall Council Chambers at 157 N Broadway, Blackfoot ID, with plans to continue the meetings on a monthly basis prior to City Council meetings.

In the event that individuals are unable to attend, or do not wish to present their question in a public forum, questions and/or issues may be pre-submitted to [email protected]. Those questions will then receive a response either personally, via social media or during the open mic session.

Mayor Carroll recently met with James A. Earp, the State Veterans Cemetery Bureau Chief, who provided him with information on the State Veterans Cemetery that is being constructed in Blackfoot!
Roads are currently being cut into the property and things are starting to take shape, and construction is on-track for the dedication of the grounds to occur on November 11, 2020.

It looks as though snow is in the forecast again, and our Streets Department employees are out there making sure to prepare the roads as much as is possible.

Although our Streets Superintendent drives through continuously to ensure safe roadways within City limits, you may want to report a specific area that you feel needs more attention. If you do so, please be specific about the location when contacting Bingham County Dispatch or reporting the concern on the City's web site, as we cannot react to general 'roads are bad' comments.

City offices, including all departments, will be closed on January 1, 2020. Garbage pick-up on Thursday will be for Wednesday and Thursday customers, with the normal pick-up schedule resuming on Friday, January 3.

The garbage collection schedule for the Christmas holiday has changed!
In order to allow our employees time with their families, our Sanitation Department will be closed on Christmas Day, the day after Christmas, and New Years Day. As such, following is the garbage collection schedule for Christmas and New Year:
Wednesday, December 25 - No Garbage Pick-Up
Thursday, December 26 - No Garbage Pick-Up
Friday, December 27 - Garbage will be picked up for Wednesday & Thursday customers
Monday, December 30 - Garbage will be picked up for Friday and Monday customers
Wednesday, January 1 - No garbage Pick-Up
Thursday, January 2 - Garbage will be picked-up for Wednesday & Thursday customers

Blackfoot City Departments are currently experiencing problems with the phone system and are unable to call out or receive calls. We are working with our phone service provider to remedy this as soon as possible. In the meantime, should you need to speak to someone, please use Facebook IM.
