Congratulations Tammy Luker for leading your students. So glad the pantry cook-off got these students started.

The Eastern Idaho State Fair would like to have a large Adirondack chair built and painted green with the 4H clover on it, to be placed in front of the 4H building at the fairgrounds. We are looking for volunteers to complete this chair either as an Eagle Scout project or a Club Service project. So if anyone is interested in taking on this project and want to build it, the opportunity is now open and available. Brandon Bird would really like it built before the fair opens this September. It needs to be strong and durable enough that it can support the weight of people climbing all over it and taking their pictures while seated in it. I have attached a picture to help you get an idea of what he is envisioning. Please reach out to Brandon Bird and let him know if you or your 4-H group want to take on this project. 208-785-2480 to reach EISF office.

Some 2020 food predictions by Ellen Schuster, BA, MS

Looking at these predictions, one enduring trend is plant-based and it looks like ancient grains will diversify. As the year begins, new flavors and cuisines will take hold. Most interesting read for me? The one from delivery app companies about what people ordered and what may be popular in the year ahead.

From nutritionists...

**Nutrition experts forecast 2020 will usher in the ultimate food revolution according to a survey of over 1200 Today's Dietitian respondents. They see these superfoods trending in 2020: beets, ancient grains, avocados and more. They also see clean eating and the keto diet going strong @ https://www.lpollockpr.com/in-the-news/nutrition-experts-forecast-2020-will-usher-in-the-ultimate-food-revolution/

From others...
**2020 food trends according to Yelp include crunchy foods, breakfast gets fancy (soufflé pancakes?), bowls, customization, pink (?) food, ube on the rise (it's a purple yam), alternative flours, curries go fast casual, fry sauce(ketchup and mayo @ https://www.forbes.com/sites/bridgetshirvell/2019/12/04/10-food-trends-to-look-for-in-2020-according-to-yelp/

**Trending & blending. According to a recent study consumers are open to using plant-based options as a way to decrease meat and the article shares other observations that indicate blending (using mushrooms with meat) may continue into 2020 @ https://www.retaildietitians.com/articles/the-trend-is-to-blend/. 2019 Idaho 4-H Livestock Management Skill-a-thon Contest
The Livestock Skill-a-thon is an opportunity for young people to blend knowledge and skills from livestock judging, demonstrations, care and exhibition of animals into one activity. It provides teens with no opportunity for livestock ownership to learn about the importance of livestock and their products to the environment, expanding their knowledge and participation. In addition, it is an opportunity to recognize members for their total involvement in and comprehension in the livestock industry, instilling ethical values, good sportsmanship and evaluation skills.
