Thanks to our Bingham County Potato Growers!

Changing leaves, chilly weather and cozy meals all mark the arrival of fall and one of the most important times of the year in Idaho - the potato harvest! More than 13 billion pounds of spuds (about one-third of all potatoes grown in the United States), is unearthed in this annual event. And in celebration, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) has created a menu of Oktuberfest recipes you can feast on all month long.

Bingham County Mosquito Abatement
The goal of the Bingham County’s Mosquito Abatement through Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) is to achieve quality mosquito control and detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) in a way that both protects the public, as well as facilitates the natural ecology of an area. This both preserves the beauty of, and value of properties, and the great outdoors. To accomplish this, we coordinate with the State and local property owners as well as other counties and government.

Our main responsibility is to manage the Bingham County mosquito habitat, service the public for outdoor events, and take aggressive action when WNV is detected and/or mosquitoes become a significant nuisance. If you are experiencing high mosquito activity in your area here is what you can do:

Simply email or call and leave a message with your name, address where you are experiencing the problem, and phone number, any questions, and a VDCI technician will come out for an inspection and action will be taken based on the results: [email protected] 208-684-5112

For further information on VDCI and/or mosquito abatement go to: www.vdci.net

General information

Bingham County was created from the northern and eastern sections of Oneida County by an Act of the Thirteenth Territorial Legislature. Governor William M. Bunn signed the act on January 13, 1885. He asked that the newly created county be named in honor of General Henry H. Bingham, a congressman from Pennsylvania who had helped secure his appointment as Governor to the Territory of Idaho. Blackfoot was named the county seat.
