Applications are OPEN for the Associates of the Boston Public Library's 2026-27 Alan Andres Writing Fellowships!

📚 Alan Andres Writer-in-Residence: A year-long residency (Oct 2026–Sept 2027) with a $70,000 stipend, $2,500 for professional development, and a private office in the BPL to complete a children’s or YA project (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays, or graphic novels).

📖 Alan Andres Picture Book Writer Fellowship: A $25,000 stipend plus $2,500 for professional development to write picture books for ages 0–2 (board books) and 3–8 (picture books and early readers).

Applications close on Friday, June 5, 2026.

The BPL is inviting artists of all ages to take part in a Library Card Design contest in celebration of Library Card Sign-Up Month this September!

🎨How does it work?
One adult (18+), one teen (13-17), and one youth (0-12) winner will have their original artwork featured on official BPL cards in circulation during 2026–2027.

✉️ What do you submit?
An original design that reflects what the library means to you and your community.

The contest will run from May 15 through June 15, 2026. Start creating!

Located in front of City Hall in Providence R.I., the Soldiers and Sailors Monument was dedicated on September 16, 1871 and was one of the first monuments nationwide to memorialize black soldiers who fought in the Civil War.
