Lou is back from a hiatus and wanted to warn you to stay off the roads if possible!

We are expected to receive 2–5 inches of rain this evening. Heavy downpours could cause flash flooding, so it is best to avoid travel. Agencies have been working on clearing catch basins and positioning emergency response resources in advance of the storm.

If there are downed trees, flooded areas, or any other issues, it is best in these scenarios to report to 311 and then flag for my office using the 311 number, that way it gets in the queue ASAP. Feel free to email my office at [email protected].

Today State Senator Andrew Gounardes and I received an update on the homicide in Bay Ridge on June 20th. The perpetrator is known but not yet apprehended. The NYPD has released this wanted flyer with his information and photo. If anyone has any information or has seen this individual, please call the detective listed.

I am told the NYPD believes that the victim and perpetrator knew each other but that motive remains unclear at this time.

This month, my office met with the DOT Commissioner, and we are *FINALLY* getting some good news that work is set to resume on the 17th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.

Work will resume on Monday, July 27th. This will require single-lane closures along the Belt Parkway in both directions from 10am - 2pm, with at least one lane of traffic maintained at all times. Plan for some delays if you travel within these hours. This portion of the work will last until August 21st.

Rest assured my office has made our complete and utter frustration known directly to the Commissioner, and we will be staying on this project to make sure it sees its completion ASAP.

Senator Scarcella-Spanton and I received complaints about the lack of lifeguards in Coney Island west of the pier, which is a frustrating reality for families who live on the west end. After advocating to Parks, they will be opening two more lifeguard bays beginning tomorrow.

Lifeguards will alternate between Bay 15 (just west of the pier) and Bay 21 (west of Nautilus Playground) on a daily basis. You can check the Parks map for up to date coverage.

Next year, we will be advocating for consistent and early coverage on the west end. But we thank Parks for hearing us and making this switch so that families can enjoy the rest of the summer where they live.
