Today, our offices sent a joint letter to the Department of Transportation (DOT) in opposition to their proposed Local Truck Route on Third Avenue in Bay Ridge. Our offices join the Merchants of 3rd Avenue, 5th Avenue BID, 86th Street BID, Community Board 10, and many neighbors who have already raised their voices in opposition to this proposal.
Third Avenue is already a heavily congested commercial corridor, and our neighborhood pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and local businesses that rely on Third Avenue cannot afford it being designated as a local truck route. We have major concerns about impacts to both safety and quality of life along Third Avenue and the surrounding blocks that DOT has not meaningfully addressed.
There will be a Public Hearing regarding the Truck Route Network Redesign on Tuesday, June 9th at 10AM. Whether or not you can attend that hearing (either virtually or in-person), you can also submit written comments by mail, email, or direct online submission by June 9th. All of the ways you can comment are outlined here: https://rules.cityofnewyork.us/rule/dot-proposed-amendment-of-rules-relating-to-citywide-truck-routes/
If you share our concerns about the Third Avenue Truck Route Proposal, make sure to submit comments by the June 9th deadline. Donβt miss your chance to make your voice heard!
