🚔🚨 It’s been a great start to the school year! I’ve enjoyed getting into the schools, meeting students and staff, visiting classrooms, and settling into my role as School Resource Officer. 🚨🚔

🏫 One of my first classroom opportunities was with our fourth-grade students, where we talked about the importance of knowing your home address. 📚

🏠 We discussed how knowing your address can be extremely important during an emergency. If you ever need police, fire, or medical assistance, being able to tell a dispatcher where you live can help get help headed your way. 🚑🚒🚓📞

We also talked about another important part of knowing your address: knowing who to share it with. Students learned that their address is personal information. It can be shared when appropriate with trusted adults and emergency responders, but it should not be given to strangers, shared online, or shared with others they don’t know and trust.

🗓️These first two weeks have been a great opportunity to start building relationships, answer questions, and become a familiar face around our schools.

City of Burns – Community Reminder

The Burns Police Department would like to remind our community about City regulations regarding living or residing in camp trailers/recreational vehicles within the Burns city limits.

We understand that housing situations can be difficult and that camp trailers may sometimes seem like a temporary solution. However, these regulations are in place for important health, safety, sanitation, fire-safety, and community welfare concerns.

Per Burns City Ordinance Code 15.15.020, living in a camp trailer within the city limits is prohibited.

The Burns Police Department is asking individuals who are currently residing in a camp trailer, as well as property owners who are allowing a camp trailer to be used as a residence on their property, to take the necessary steps to come into compliance with City ordinance. Enforcement will include citations in the amount of $300.00.

Our goal is not simply to issue citations. We would much rather see voluntary compliance and give our community an opportunity to correct these situations before enforcement becomes necessary.

Camp trailers are designed for recreational and temporary use and may create serious safety concerns when used as long-term residences, particularly when they involve improper electrical connections, heating devices, waste disposal, limited emergency access, or other unsafe conditions.

Please help us keep Burns safe.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR SRO OFFICER BEERS!

School is officially back in session, and Officer Beers is starting the year alongside our students and staff! 💜💛

For his first-day-of-school photo, Officer Beers shared what he wants to be when he grows up:

“K-9 Handler / SRO”

He’s already halfway there! 😂🐾 Now we just need to work on that K-9 partner!

Having an SRO in our schools is about much more than enforcement. It’s about building relationships, being a trusted resource, supporting students and staff, promoting safety, and being part of the school community.

Officer Beers is looking forward to a great school year filled with positive interactions, plenty of high-fives, and opportunities to get to know our students.

We hope all of our students, teachers, staff, and families have a safe, successful, and memorable 2026–2027 school year!

And students—if you see Officer Beers in the hallway, make sure to ask him for a sticker! 😉
