Tuesday Night Training: Electric Vehicle KT Class (Knowledge Transfer). After attending a great class on EV and Hybrid vehicles, instructed by Junkyard Dogs, members of Cherry Grove conducted a training to bring back what they had learned. This allows them to help build a stronger team by passing along important information and techniques to more members of their department. Participants learned about topics such as vehicle construction, fire considerations and extinguishment techniques, and the hazards associated with lithium ion battery thermal runaway. EV and Hybrid vehicles are advancing in safety and efficiency, but there is still more progress to be made. They will continue to be a growing trend and keeping up as first responders is our obligation.

This year, we submitted one of Cherry Grove Fire Rescue's founding fathers, Charles Seabold for addition to the Michigan State Firemen's Memorial Wall in Roscommon, MI. He not only served his country, but served his community in countless ways- including 49 years in the Fire Service. It was our distinct honor to submit his name for the recognition that he deserves. There will be a ceremony held on Saturday Sept 19th at 9am in Roscommon to honor him, and all fallen Michigan Firefighters.

Tuesday Night Training: Driver's Remediation (Night #2). Well, the evening started out warm and beautiful. Everything was going well. Crews were navigating the course weaving in and out of the obstacles with caution and intention. Then came the rain.. a few sprinkles quickly turned into a downpour. The course got a bit more challenging for the drivers and a lot more wet for Asst. Chiefs Fauble and Walsh monitoring the safety of the cones and accuracy of the drivers. It was a good training because emergencies don't wait for nice weather.

Today members of Cherry Grove had the opportunity to attend an Electric Vehicle training instructed by Junkyard Dogs. This class, sponsored by the Wexford County Firefighter's Training Committee, focused on several aspects of the ever-evolving and quickly growing trend of Hybrid and All-Electric vehicles. It is important for firefighters to continue to learn and adapt to technology and trends. We learned about different types of vehicle and battery construction, charging station features and considerations, extrication, and extinguishment. We are grateful for the crew from Junkyard Dogs for their exceptional instruction, and for the firefighters that continue to learn and share their knowledge.

🚒 MI-MABAS STRIKE TEAM LEADER COURSE 🚒

MI-MABAS Division 3704 will be hosting a MI-MABAS Strike Team Leader Course at Cherry Grove Fire and Rescue on:

📅 Thursday, September 10, 2026
⏰ 0900–1500 hours
📍 Cherry Grove Fire and Rescue
4830 E. M-55, Cadillac, MI 49601

This course is designed to strengthen the leadership, accountability, communication, and resource-management capabilities required to effectively lead organized resources during MI-MABAS deployments, mutual-aid incidents, large-scale emergencies, disasters, and regional mobilizations.

⚠️ IMPORTANT FUNDING UPDATE

Due to funding reductions in the most recent State of Michigan budget, this is expected to be the final Strike Team Leader Course available through the current funding mechanism for the foreseeable future.

Additional courses are not anticipated until another funding source can be identified and secured.

Because of this, participating agencies are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and identify personnel who may serve in Strike Team Leader, supervisory, or deployment leadership roles.

Building a qualified leadership bench is critical to the continued development and operational readiness of MI-MABAS.

Train now. Build capability now. Be ready when the call comes.

Tuesday Night Training: Driver's Training and Hazmat Refresher. Annually, we test our apparatus drivers, generally through a cone obstacle course. This helps assure that the ones we put behind the wheel have the skills to get the job done safely. We split our crews up, with half of our personnel reviewing Hazmat and Incident Command with Chief Knauf. At the driving course we were joined by friends from Selma Township FD and Colfax-Greenwood FD. We appreciate all who continue to uphold and push the standard forward!
