Congratulations to Franklinville Central School/Ten Broeck Academy Middle School Math and Science Teacher Jeff Haskell, who was nominated by his colleagues to receive an Assembly Teacher Appreciation Week Citation from my office. Ten Broeck Academy Principal Robert Hirsch said, “Jeff's students consistently outperform their peers in the region and throughout Western New York on state exams, showcasing his exceptional teaching abilities. Beyond his classroom duties, he has also made significant contributions as a coach for cross country, softball, and basketball, earning a reputation as a Hall of Fame coach.” We are blessed with many incredible educators like Mr. Haskell across the 148th District. To celebrate and honor them, I reached out to schools across the district seeking nominees for Teacher Appreciation Week Citations.

It was an honor to be part of the annual Memorial Day observance hosted by the Olean American Legion and city of Olean at Lincoln Park. Thank you to the Scouts for serving as our Color Guard and the Olean High School Band and Chorus for rousing renditions of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and “God Bless America.” Memorial Day is a sacred day. It’s a solemn reminder of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our great nation, so that we can live in freedom. All across the 148th District, folks gathered for parades and in parks and cemeteries to remember our military heroes and honor their sacrifice. Thank you to everyone who helped organize Memorial Day observances and all those who attended. It’s a privilege to represent you in the New York State Assembly.

Congratulations to Franklinville Central School/Ten Broeck Academy Art Teacher Tim Wangelin, who was nominated by his colleagues to receive an Assembly Teacher Appreciation Week Citation from my office. Ten Broeck Academy Principal Robert Hirsch said, “Tim’s influence on his students is nothing short of extraordinary.” Mr. Wangelin is also revered among his colleagues as a mentor. “His impact on students and the entire school community is significant and he deserves this acknowledgment,” Mr. Hirsch said. Thank you to Mr. Wangelin for his commitment to his students and the community. To celebrate and honor incredible educators like Mr. Wangelin, I reached out to schools across the 148th District seeking nominees for Teacher Appreciation Week Citations.

It’s always wonderful to have student leaders from the district visit me in Albany. June Hilmey, a junior at Allegany-Limestone High School, shadowed me during session as a delegate to the Students Inside Albany Program this week. She was in the Assembly Chamber as bills were debated and voted on, and also took a tour of the state Capitol building. Thank you to the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation for supporting the Students Inside Albany Program.

I’m pushing back on efforts by Democrats in Albany to change our state Constitution so they can gerrymander our Congressional district lines. It’s nothing but a partisan political power grab. The voters of New York are sovereign, and they will ultimately decide this contest, which is why I’m raising the alarm now. New Yorkers have in the past rejected changing our Constitution to allow gerrymandering. Leave the Constitution alone!

Congratulations to the members of the Allegany County, NY Sheriff’s Office recognized during the Sheriff’s Office Annual Awards Ceremony. Thank you for devoting your lives to protecting others. It’s an honor and a privilege to represent you in the New York State Assembly. I want to also thank Sheriff Scott Cicirello and Undersheriff Walt Mackney for inviting me to the ceremony. God bless all the members of law enforcement in the 148th District, and across the United States of America.

It was an honor present the Portville Central School Lady Panthers Volleyball Team with a resolution celebrating their fifth-straight NYSPHSAA Class C Volleyball Championship! This truly is a volleyball dynasty and I look forward to presenting the team with a celebratory resolution when they win their next championship. The Lady Panthers have brought home 10 overall Class C Championships. Thank you to my colleague, Senator George Borrello for sponsoring the resolution in the Senate.

Congratulations to the city of Olean and Intandem - A Chapter of The Arc New York on the grand opening of the Marcus Park All Inclusive Playground. It was an honor to be invited to the ribbon cutting! Seven years in the making, the park includes accessible playground equipment, a youth sports field, accessible restrooms and a sheltered picnic area. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible. This project was a collaboration between the city of Olean and Intandem with support from New York State’s Empire State Development program, NYS Parks and private donors.
