To help students maintain their reading skills, I’m hosting my second-annual Summer Reading Challenge for K-7 students in the 148th District. The challenge runs from July 1 through August 31. Students who read 15 minutes a day for 40 days between July and August will receive an official New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate from my office. Great to have Bruce Blakeman for Governor - Make New York Affordable visit Cattaraugus County yesterday!

More than 9 trillion cubic feet of clean-burning natural gas sits beneath my feet, but Kathy Hochul’s extraction ban keeps that prosperity locked in the ground. Instead of lowering energy costs, the Hochul administration approved 48 utility rate hikes and raised energy taxes by $4,100. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania used natural gas to reduce emissions, create hundreds of thousands of high-paying jobs, and save families nearly $9 billion on energy bills last year alone. As Governor, I will bring fracking back to New York, unleash our energy economy while protecting the environment, and cut utility bills in half.

Great to join State Senator George Borrello, Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski, Republican Comptroller candidate Joseph Hernandez, my Lt. Governor candidate Sheriff Todd Hood, and representatives of New York's energy industry Friday to call for an end to New York's ban on and a return to energy policies focused on affordability, reliability, and economic growth.

Champions! It was an honor to present members of the Fillmore Central School Varsity Boys Soccer Team with an Assembly resolution celebrating their NYSPHSAA Class D State Soccer Championship. Congratulations to the Fillmore Eagles Varsity Soccer Team, and all their coaches and supporters. Thank you to my colleague, Senator George Borrello for sponsoring the resolution celebrating the Eagle’s state championship in the Senate.

Thank you to all the dairy farmers and their cows in the 148th District and across New York for giving us delicious milk, cheese and ice cream, and for powering New York’s economy. New York is the fifth-largest dairy producing state in the U.S. and dairy is New York’s top agricultural production, generating $3.9 billion for the state’s economy each year.

I want to thank SUNY Chancellor John King for inviting me to join him as he met with students and faculty at SUNY Alfred State College and at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and took a tour of the College of Ceramics. I’m proud to represent both campuses in the Assembly as a member of the Assembly Higher Education Committee. SUNY Alfred State College and the State College of Ceramics at Alfred University provide the kinds of hands-on, real-world learning experiences students need to compete and succeed at they enter the workforce.

My thoughts from Friday and the end of the Legislative Session. Instead of focusing on making NY more affordable for folks, the Democrat majority spent the last days of session ramming through legislation in an attempt to make partisan, political gerrymandering legal. It’s a disgrace. They should leave the New York Constitution alone. Fortunately, the sovereign people of New York will have the last word and I trust the people.
