The Carlsbad Police Department is proud to highlight Corporal Zach Bird, our School Resource Officer at PR Leyva Intermediate School, for the outstanding work he continues to do building meaningful relationships with students and staff.
Corporal Bird has made it a priority to be more than just a uniform in the hallway. Through his daily interactions, genuine conversations, and involvement with the school community, he has worked to build trust and create positive connections with the students he serves.
That commitment has now led to an exciting new opportunity for PR Leyva students, the PR Leyva Strategy Club, launching Thursday, August 27! ♟️
The Strategy Club will give students an opportunity to start their Thursday mornings with breakfast, games, conversation, and positive interaction with Corporal Bird and other members of our community’s public safety family.

Students will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking, practice problem-solving, learn good sportsmanship, ask questions, and most importantly, have fun in a positive environment.
The goal goes beyond the games. It’s about building relationships, encouraging good decision-making, strengthening trust, and creating positive connections between our students and the public safety professionals who serve them.
We are incredibly proud of Corporal Bird for the initiative he has shown and, more importantly, for the relationships he continues to forge with students and staff at PR Leyva. This is exactly what community policing and the School Resource Officer program are about.
