The Stellar Awards are coming to Charlotte, bringing a national celebration of Black Gospel Music, culture and community to the Queen City.

Charlotte Area Fund President & CEO Nick Wharton joined Bishop Claude Alexander from The Park Church Charlotte on WBTV News to reflect on the significance of the Stellar Awards and the impact of a musical tradition deeply rooted in the Black American experience.

“Charlotte Area Fund celebrates the 41st Stellar Awards and all of its North Carolina nominees. At its roots, Black Gospel Music is a uniquely American art form, one that has inspired and guided millions worldwide toward personal spiritual clarity, moving individuals, families, and communities to action.”

— Nick Wharton, President & CEO, Charlotte Area Fund

Back-to-school season brings excitement. But for many families, it also brings another expense to an already stretched household budget.

This year, the purchase of the most common school supplies like pencils and notebooks costs an average of $173.45.

❗7.7% more than last year

When families are already balancing the cost of food, housing, utilities, transportation and other necessities, every additional cost matters.

At Charlotte Area Fund, we know that financial stability isn't just about one expense.

➣ It's about helping individuals and families build the skills, resources, and opportunities that create greater economic security over time.

Because every family deserves the opportunity to move forward.

🎒 A strong school year starts with a strong community. 💙

Charlotte Area Fund was proud to join our partner, The C. W. Williams Community Health Center, Inc for their 12th Annual Back to School Community Health Fair on Saturday!

Families came together to receive:
🖍️ School supplies
🩺 Health services like $25 back-to-school physicals and $35 sports physicals
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community resources
And more!

All designed to help children and families begin the new school year healthy, prepared, and supported. 🌟

Events like this remind us what’s possible when community organizations work together to connect families with the resources they need to thrive.

Thank you, CWWCHC, for bringing our community together, and to everyone who stopped by to connect with our team!

🌿 Wellness isn't only about what we eat, how much we exercise, or how we take care of our bodies. 🌿

➡️ Financial stability matters, too.

For families struggling to afford necessities like food, housing, and utilities, economic pressure can take an emotional toll, contributing to increased stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

That's why our work goes beyond helping someone find a new career.

Through workforce development, Success Coaching, financial empowerment and connections to community resources, we assist individuals in addressing barriers, building stability, and creating a stronger foundation for the future.

This National Wellness Month, we're recognizing an important connection:

✨Financial well-being is part of overall well-being. ✨

Because when we help reduce the burdens families carry, we create more room for Charlotte neighbors to thrive.

💡A criminal record can continue creating barriers long after someone has completed their sentence.

Research published in the Harvard Law Review found that only 6.5% of people who are eligible for expungement actually receive it.

❗Yet for those who do, the results are powerful: wages increased by more than 22% within one year, driven by more people finding jobs and securing better-paying employment.

That's why removing barriers matters, and working with community partners like Latoshia Young, Program Manager for Mecklenburg County Government's Criminal Justice Services and Re-Entry Services, is so important.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a stable future.

✨Through workforce development, Success Coaching, financial empowerment, and partnerships with organizations across our community, we're assisting individuals in overcoming obstacles and accessing meaningful employment.

Because when barriers come down, opportunity grows!
