THANK YOU! We had an exceptional team of neighbors who came together Monday afternoon to clean up the Addison & Avondale Mural Garden space! Together, we pruned, w**ded, mulched, and picked up trash for an 1-1/2 hours and it made a really significant difference. Next time you walk by, take a look at the results, and if you see some trash or w**ds....well, you know what to do!

Many thanks to Bruno, Leah and Lin, Elvira from Jaime Andrade, State Representative, 40th District's office and her son Xavier, Katy from 30th Ward Alderwoman Ruth Cruz's office, long-time garden supporter Al, and first-time garden volunteers Kat and Joel, and Joe...and the ever present Amy and Victoria.

If you weren't able to make it this week, our next work day will be in late July/August and we'd love to see then!

Greetings Neighbors, and Happy Spring!

It's that time of year to get together for our annual clean-up at the Addison & Avondale Mural Garden. While the daffodils are in bloom and look lovely, the garden itself needs some tending.
Join us on Monday, April 28, at 4 pm to prune, mulch, w**d, and prepare the garden for the growing season. No gardening experience required; we will provide the tools, garden gloves, cold water, and a fun time as we work together to beautify the corner of Addison & Avondale.

We had another fabulous group of volunteers come out Monday night to get the garden ready for its winter slumber. We trimmed, pruned, w**ded, swept, raked, cleaned off graffiti, and picked up bags and bags of trash.

*Many thanks to the dynamic trio from the office of Jaime Andrade, State Representative, 40th District.....Jaime himself, along with Elvira and Eddie joined in the clean-up.

*And from 30th Ward Alderwoman Ruth Cruz's office, the gardening goddess Katy helped out.

*We were also lucky to have a couple of garden "originals" dating back to the beginning in 2013, Al and Mitch and a couple of more recent recruits from the neighborhood, Sean and Bruno! As always, Amy and Victoria (the photographer) did their fair share!

As you know, over the past few years, we have put out the call for new ideas and leadership for the garden committee and we think a couple of volunteers have heeded the call. Stay tuned for updates and what's to come in 2025.

We wish all of our neighbors and the community the best in the remainder of this year and the new year! While we will likely not have another organized garden work day until 2025, feel free to stop by and help keep the garden w**d and trash free.

What a difference 2 weeks, cooler temperatures by more than 10 degrees and a total of 11 volunteers can make (these great folks, plus the photographer and one person who left early)! You'll notice a more trim and almost w**d free garden and brick walk-way, and the elimination of many of the nearly 2-foot tall w**ds along the curb.

Huge thanks to Barb and Katy from Alderwoman Ruth Cruz's office, Elvira from State Rep. Jaimie Andrade's office; Sean, ANA member, Al and son Aidan, first time volunteers Glen, Cecilia and Colleen, Kimberly, who stopped by early to pick up trash....plus the ever-present Victoria and Amy.

We are grateful for the support and hope to see all of you and a few more new or old faces in the fall.

Enjoy the remainder of summer!

We are thrilled! We've had a fabulous response to our call for volunteers. We'll have a few familiar faces and several new community members for our summer garden work day!
If you didn't respond, feel free to make a game time decision and just show up--the more the merrier.

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, August 13, at 5 pm at the corner of Addison & Avondale; we'll have bottled water, garden gloves, and tools to use!

Friends of the Mural Garden,

We need you! At our last Garden Work Day on July 30th, it was 90+ degrees, and we were the only two volunteers. We appreciated hearing from several of you, that you had other commitments that day. We completed a solid hour's work in that crazy heat, but there is much left to do.

In order to finish the necessary summer work, we have scheduled another work day on Tuesday, August 13, at 5:00 pm. Please join us! As always, all tools and garden gloves will be provided.

Many thanks for your continued interest and support of the Addison & Avondale Mural Garden. We can't do it without your help!
