Jane Addams Senior Caucus has about 500 members from diverse background fighting for social justice. We know that seniors are valuable to our community and that seniors coming together can improve their lives and be active in civic life.

Tenant Governance in Action: Congratulations Crestwood Tenant Association on their first fully self-organized building meeting!

Over a dozen tenants at Lakeside Towers utilized Jane Addams Senior Caucus' webapp to document and report the lack of pest control as well as email their demand for regular and routine pest control. Guess what, the very next week tenants received notices that eachfloor would receive comprehensive pest control every 2 weeks! There is power in numbers, acting together regularly gets the goods!

Crestwood Tenant Association is still in the fight and we will not let them knock us out!

Alderman Taliaferro shared these words of wisdom at our press conference.

"Ofterntimes our fight goes beyond just the second round. We look at our best prizefighters they dont prepare for one or two rounds. Although they tell you they want a knockout, and we want a knockout vicotry here, they prepare to fight the whole fight. If it's a twelve round fight, they prepare to fight twelve rounds. Because no good boxer recieves success if he only preares to fight two rounds. Because what happens when they face adversity? It may be more challenging than they expect... they tend to lose"

✊🏽 Tenant power is growing across Illinois!

We're taking a moment to look back at the incredible Inaugural Tenant Governance Convocation, because wow was it an incredible day! Tenant leaders from across the state came together to strengthen our movement and build a shared vision for what tenant leadership can look like.

We’re proud of every tenant leader who stepped up, took on new responsibilities, and committed to building power in their buildings and communities.

Can't wait to do this again, we are just getting started!

Campaign Update!!

We fought and did not give up! Ms. C fought and didn't give up! Ms. C is officially recertified and lawfully in her home to stay as she always should've been!

While the City of Chicago and Mayor's Office contiued to turn their back and ignore Ms. C and other low income tenants despite their 'progressive rhetoric' JASC and Ms. C never backed down becuase we do not cower to the developer class we fight for what is right and just and we win!

We aren't going anywhere, we are here to back up other tenants just like Ms. C and stand up for the high quality housing they deserve!

🏠 TODAYS FACT: Chicago is short roughly 120,000 affordable housing units.
And more than half of Chicago renters are considered cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing.

That’s not a niche problem. That’s the reality for the majority of renters in Chicago.
When a housing market isn’t building enough homes that the people who live here can actually afford, the consequences aren’t abstract, they’re felt by our neighbors, our families, and our communities.

🎉 Tenant leaders from across the state came together this weekend, and the energy said it all.

From Chicago to Waukegan to Auroa, tenant leaders sat down together to build the roadmap for tenant governance: new roles, new commitments, and a shared plan for the work ahead. This is what it looks like when tenants don't just show up to organizing, they lead it.

Huge thanks to every leader who signed on, showed up, and stepped into these roles. This is just the beginning. 💪
