I’m excited to join The People's Lobby and my northwest side collegues on June 20th from 11am to 2pm for a discussion on how our communities can lead the fight for a just and fair state budget! We’ll break down what passed, what didn’t, what fights remain, and how we continue organizing for a budget that reflects the needs of working people across Illinois.

Thanks to Pluribus News for highlighting our work to take on private equity in healthcare in Illinois. This bill would establish a permanent requirement for healthcare entities to notify the attorney general before a merger or affiliation. It was passed with unanimous approval in every vote. We need to start thinking about what else we can do to protect patients and providers from predatory private equity in our healthcare systems.

I was incredibly honored to deliver the key note address to the 2026 graduating class at Avondale-Logandale Elementary on Tuesday. I told these students that they should never hesitate to take up space, be bold in who they are, and proud of where they came from. These kids represent the best of us and why I will always fight to ensure their schools are fully funded, and they have the resources they need to thrive.

The FY27 budget is a step in the right direction, but we have a long way to go to deliver real tax fairness and affordability for Illinois families. I am proud that we were able to build a coalition that helped deliver revenue at a time that we need it the most but we know what the stakes in our communities are. This is a start, and it’s not enough.

We are ready for the fight ahead, and we intend to win it.

I am very pleased to announce my legislation, Senate Bill 3564 has passed the Illinois House and Senate! This bill would advance health, safety and economic participation for workers on Illinois construction sites — especially those who are menstruating or lactating. The bill is about safer, more humane workplaces and about ensuring our skilled Illinois workforce can participate fully in our state’s economy.

Women and anyone who menstruates have a right to care for their bodies in a dignified and sanitary way. Whether in the office or on the job site, we need commonsense accommodations for those who menstruate and those who are lactating. This legislation uplifts women which in turn will support the trades and their hard work. The bill heads to the Governor’s desk.

This plan represents the start of a conversation, not the end. The revenue package contains real reform, taxing massive tech corporations while they rake in billions of profit on our data. This is the first step on the path to truly equitable revenue reform. At a time when Illinoisans are struggling to pay for groceries, health care costs and rent, we should be bold and creative in finding ways to support the programs that are vital to keep our communities whole.
