The department would like to send a special #thankyou to everyone involved in helping to celebrate the life of Dallas Fire-Rescue Officer, #MarcusEvans. The fine folks at Metro Fellowship - Church Desoto, State Senator Royce West, John Wiley Price Dallas Black Firefighters Association among others in and out of the department gave such touching testimonies which served as a testament to not only the type of person and co-worker he was, but the number of lives that he touched.

You will never be forgotten Brother.....#RIP... Station 33 - Dallas Fire Rescue

On December 5, 2020, Dallas Fire Station 51 was virtually presented the #award for #DistinguishedService at the annual Dallas Fire-Rescue Awards show. Today, #FireChief Dominique Artis, and some of the Command Staff, visited the station for a long overdue in-person presentation.

This particular award is presented annually to "uniformed members who have disregarded their safety to save the life of another". The members of #engine51 A-shift epitomized that qualification on February 3, 2020, when they were dispatched to a house fire, on the 800 block of Oslo Lane, at 12:10 a.m.

They arrived at the one-story wood-framed residence to find heavy smoke coming from the house, as well as fire coming from the windows on the Bravo/Charlie side. An individual was outside pointing to the windows stating that someone was still inside the house with a water hose trying to put the fire out. Disregarding their own safety, they grabbed a crosslay and made their way inside the home. Yelling out to the occupant, they heard a voice coming from the fire room, so they made their way inside. With the fire being as intense as it was, the Officer made the appropriate decision to not put water on the fire, due to the likelihood that the resulting steam would have burned the occupant to death. Instead, they crawled on their bellies, and worked for approximately 3-4 minutes inside the fire room to pull debris off the occupant before ultimately pulling him to safety.

The occupant was lifeless when he was transferred over to medics, but they were able to revive him by the time they arrived at the hospital; enabling the man to make a full recovery.

Unfortunately, the rescue didn't come without its cost to the firefighters who conducted it, as most (if not all) of them suffered some degree of burns; including one member who was off for 9 months before returning to shift work.

It is without a doubt that if not for the #bravery, #training, #resolve and overall #selflessness of these individuals, this person would not have made it out of this situation alive. While they could have easily looked at the fire conditions upon arrival, and declared it unsurvivable, the fact that they instead chose without hesitation to conduct a rescue, speaks to the fact that they are doing exactly what they've been called to do.......#caring #serving #protecting and #savinglives!

Fine work by all!

Today, #FireChief Dominique Artis visited #FireStation15 to recognize the members of multiple companies for their #lifesaving efforts last month.

On May 5th, 2021, Dallas Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire at an apartment complex at 1159 North Madison Avenue. Firefighters encounter heavy smoke and fire on the first floor extending to the second; and with their means of egress cut off, multiple residents were trying to climb to safety from the second floor windows that weren't being impinged by the flames. In spite of the danger, all companies demonstrated outstanding expertise and coordination in successfully rescuing 6 trapped residents and extinguishing the fire.

The #professionalism, #teamwork and #heroism can not be understated, as the actions of everyone involved turned what could have been an absolute tragedy to a case where 6 people were most likely given a second chance at life!

Great job by everyone involved! Dallas Fire Station #4 #DallasFireStation14 #DallasFireStation15, Dallas Fire Station 18, #DallasFireStation26, #DallasFireStation33 and #DallasFireStation45. #ServiceBeforeSelf #firefighters #firstresponders #structurefire

Hey there Grand Prairie Fire Departmentfire We just want to say #THANKYOU for honoring our Brother, #ScottTanksley, in addition to Brother Hill, on your new blocker! While we know that most people associate with Dallas Fire-Rescue know how Tanskley died, there are many who aren't aware that the most dangerous aspect of our job, despite what's depicted on television, in the movies and other digital mediums, is responding to accidents on highways and other thoroughfares. While blocker programs save, the cities who use them, tons of money by protecting its front-line units; make no mistake that the primary reason for such initiatives is for the #safety of the men and women of the #fireservice, as well as #lawenforcement, who protect our cities day in and day out!

People in City of Grand Prairie - Municipal Government who drive by #fire and #police at accidents will now have some added context because of what you've done. Not only will they see the accident and consider the well-being of those involved, but they'll see our #Brothers on the side of that blocker and realize the vulnerability we face outside of those we face on the fire ground.

This means more to our department then you'll ever know! Additionally, we'd be neglectful in our gratitude if we didn't mention how grateful the #TanksleyFamily must also be! What an awesome tribute!!!

Job well done by the members of Dallas Fire-Rescue Fire Station 31 and Dallas Fire Station #17 after responding to a 911 call to #rescue a #trappedanimal on Saturday, April 10th, from underneath an SUV in the #WhiteRock area. #Firefighters pulled out all the stops, including removing one of the tires so they could access the #puppy from the top and bottom of the engine compartment, to make sure she was safely removed and transferred to the care of Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center.

And if your hearts hadn't been warmed enough by the rescue itself....Yesterday, the puppy, which was appropriately named #Grace, was officially adopted by one of the firefighters who helped to rescue her!

Things like this don't happen without the #compassion of multiple people. #Attaboy to the citizens who thought the value of an animal's life important enough to call 911 in the first place. Thank you to the fine folks of Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center for always placing the needs of our four-legged residents at the forefront. Thank you to the members of DFR for #Caring, #Serving and #Protecting, for humans and animals alike. And saving the best for last..... thank you to James Tooter Hayes for showing Grace the love and compassion she clearly hadn't received prior to this past Saturday!
