This past weekend marked the finish for driver training for some of our members. Saturday they were tested on pre trip inspections and Sunday they finished with their static course and a road test. All of our members passed and will now be licensed to drive fire apparatus. Congratulations! Next step is for them to learn each truck so they can become qualified.

Congratulations to the Deep River Fire Department in recognition of their 130th Anniversary. In celebration of this achievement, DRFD had the honour of leading the annual Deep River Ancient Muster.
Muster 2026 was designated the National Muster as well as part of the nations 250th Anniversary.
DRFD secured the services of the Middletown Police Pipes and Drum Corps to help complete their contingent.

The annual Deep River Fire Department car show will be held on Sunday September 13, 2026 from 9-12 at Devitt Field in Deep River.
Food will be available for purchase, and live music by Tim Kosky!
Vehicle entries are $10 and walk-in’s are free.
All proceeds benefit DRFD.

This  Saturday and Sunday, some of our members along with other departments are participating in a pump operations class. The class is hosted by DRFD and being taught by Middlesex County fire school, dedicated volunteers using their weekend to learn new skills.

Drill with Essex Fire Department in Essex.
Members from Deep River, Chester and Essex fire departments joined forces to work on three different accident scenarios. The two departments merged, then broke into 3 different groups. Each group had a different accident scene to mitigate. In each case one vehicle was on top of another vehicle. The firefighters needed to stabilize the top vehicle first, then use tools to free the vehicle on the bottom to get to any possible occupants.
This drill provided the opportunity for firefighters from different departments to work together and to brain storm ideas and methods as well as use new tools and techniques.

State of Ct. Fire Academy smoke trailer.
Firefighters had the opportunity to drill in a smoke filled, heated, under dark conditions (fire trailer), as experienced in a real fire. Hose advancement as well as search and rescue were part of the drill.

DRFD would like to thank the VRHS students who volunteered to clean all our trucks in time for Memorial Day. You were all respectful and worked hard to make the trucks and windows shine.
