🚨 Community Alert: Illegal Dumping on South Boundary Rd. 🚨

We are investigating an illegal dumping that occurred along South Boundary Road. We are asking for help in identifying the following suspect(s):

- On the morning of August 20, 2026, the contents of a nearly entire shed were located along the right shoulder of South Boundary Rd.

If you are driving along South Boundary Rd and see someone dumping/littering, please provide dashcam footage or report these individuals/vehicles.

*** DUI AND SHOPLIFTING ARREST AT SAFEWAY ***

Del Rey Oaks PD responded to a subject passed out in the driver seat of a vehicle at Safeway, located at 815 Canyon Del Rey Blvd.

Upon contact with the subject, who was later identified as Brian Wind, officers determined that he had stolen items from Safeway. Wind then attempted to leave the area in his vehicle, but the vehicle broke down. Further investigation revealed that Wind operated the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Wind was subsequently arrested for 23152(a) VC - Driving Under the Influence, 23152(b) VC - DUI with a BAC greater than 0.08%, and 459.5 PC - Shoplifting.

We would like to thank the members of our community who promptly notified DRO PD of this incident. Your vigilance and willingness to speak up helped officers intervene and get a dangerous driver off the road, potentially preventing a serious collision or injury.

We appreciate everyone who takes an active role in keeping our roads and community safe. Your actions make a difference.

*** Traffic Collision ***

On August 13, 2026, a Nissan Maxima was involved in a collision with Del Rey Farms, located at 800 Portola Drive.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The driver was cited for:
• 21658(a) VC – Unsafe Lane Change
• 22100(a) VC – Incorrect Right Turn

Drivers are reminded to remain alert, maintain their lane, and use caution when making turns.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT / POWER OUTAGE 🚨

Due to a power outage, the traffic signals at the intersection of Monterey-Salinas Highway (Hwy 68) and Canyon Del Rey Blvd. are currently non-operational.

PG&E crews are on-site and actively working to restore power to the grid.

What to do when a traffic light is down:

- Treat the intersection as a 4-Way Stop: The first vehicle to arrive and come to a complete stop at the intersection has the right-of-way.

- Proceed with caution: Watch for pedestrians, bicycles, vehicles, and the PG&E crew working along the roadside.

Please slow down, stay alert, and drive safely!

Hit-and-Run Isn't an Escape—It's a Crime. 🛑🚗

Accidents happen...
Fleeing the scene of an accident isn't just a bad decision—it is a serious crime. Leaving the scene turns what might have been a simple insurance claim into potential criminal prosecution, jail time, fines, and a revoked license.

The truth is simple...
- You will be found. Between traffic cameras, dashcams, and witnesses.
- Fleeing the scene of an accident escalates a mistake into a criminal offence.

What to DO if you're in a Traffic Collision:
1. Pull over to a safe spot and activate hazards.
2. Call 911 immediately.
3. Report the incident with law enforcement.
4. Exchange information such as full names, phone numbers, driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance.
5. Take photographs.

If you hit an unoccupied vehicle, leave a note with your contact information for the other party and notify local law enforcement.

If you make a mistake on the road, do the right thing and take responsibility.

On July 30th, 2026, DRO PD officers observed a vehicle traveling below the speed limit, failing to maintain lanes and driving straight while positioned in a right turn lane. A traffic stop was conducted and after further investigation, the driver was found to be operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Not only was the driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) more than triple the legal amount, but he also had multiple prior convictions for DUI and was on court probation for DUI as well.

The consequences extend far beyond a traffic stop. Driving under the influence can result in serious injuries or loss of life, a criminal record, driver's license suspension, increased fines, longer jail or prison sentences, higher insurance costs, and lasting emotional and financial impacts for everyone involved. Penalties often become more severe if someone is injured or killed, or if the driver has prior DUI convictions.

If you've been drinking, make a plan before you drive:
-Use a rideshare or taxi.
- Choose a designated driver.
- Take public transportation if it's available.
- Stay where you are until you're sober.

A safe decision today can protect you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road.

On July 17th, 2026, The Del Rey Oaks Police Department was notified through the Department of Homeland Security that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be at the Monterey Regional Airport. On duty officers were notified of this. Our department is aware of and follows state law to include the California Values Act (SB 54). Officer(s) working at the Monterey Regional
Airport had no contact with any ICE Agents while they were on scene. Although not present, we understand someone was detained as a result of the (ICE) action. We do not have any information on who was detained. For further information, please contact (ICE) directly.

🚨 Community Alert 🚨

A member of our community was scammed by an individual posing as a Wells Fargo bank representative who spoofed the bank’s phone number. A large sum of money was sent via wire transfer. Information about the incident has been shared with our federal law enforcement partners.

Best Practices to Protect Against Wire Transfer Fraud According to Wells Fargo…

• Treat Wire Transfers Like Cash: Once sent, wire transfers are typically irreversible. Exercise extreme caution before authorizing any transfer.

• Verify All Requests Independently: Confirm any wire instructions by contacting the organization directly using a published, verified phone number — never rely on caller-provided contact information.

• Do Not Be Rushed: Scammers often create urgency and may use spoofed caller ID to appear legitimate. If asked to act immediately, hang up, ignore the request, and take time to verify directly with the organization.

• Seek Confirmation When in Doubt: If anything seems suspicious, stop and consult your bank or a trusted advisor before proceeding. Report suspected fraud to your financial institution and law enforcement immediately.

Earlier today, our officers were dispatched to assist a skunk that had gotten stuck in a fence.

A huge thank you to the SPCA Monterey County Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation unit! Their experienced team arrived quickly and safely rescued the skunk. 🦨❤️
