🚧From Ashes to Asphalt: Glenwood Canyon Recovery 🚧
In Episode 5 of the Glenwood Canyon Recovery series, we look back at July 31, 2021, when historic rainfall triggered a catastrophic debris flow in Blue Gulch. The slides completely shut down I-70 for two weeks, inflicting the most destructive infrastructure damage in the corridor's history across roadways, retaining walls, bridges, and the recreation trail. In just one weekend, our crews hauled out over 440 truckloads of debris—roughly 13 tons per load—launching a monumental two-year restoration effort.

This series is to commemorate the five year anniversary of the most destructive event in the history of the I-70 Mountain Corridor in 2021.

The project, which started in early April 2026, provided upgrades to more than 25 intersection locations between East Florida Avenue and East Quincy Avenue. Additional signage replacements, striping work and push button enhancements were also included in Arapahoe County and City and County of Denver.

There will be no further impacts to the traveling public as it relates to this project. Motorists are encouraged to visit COTrip.org to stay up to date on the latest road conditions and travel conditions throughout the state.
