Dear Level 6 Families,

As we continue planning for the 2026–2027 school year, we want to share an important update regarding our instructional structure at Metropolitan Arts Academy.

Earlier communications indicated that students completing Level 5 would transition into our middle school structure. However, after carefully reviewing enrollment projections and staffing needs, we have made the decision to adjust our grade-level organization for the coming year.

For the 2026–2027 school year, our Level 6 students will remain within our Intermediate School structure, while our Middle School team will focus exclusively on serving students in Levels 7 and 8. We understand that some families may have anticipated a different transition, and we appreciate your flexibility as we make decisions that best support all students and maintain strong learning environments.

We are pleased to share that Ms. Layton will serve as the Level 6 teacher next year. For some students, this means they will have the opportunity to continue learning with Ms. Layton for a second year. This practice, often referred to as "looping," provides several benefits for students and families:

* Stronger student-teacher relationships built on an already established foundation of trust and understanding.
* Less time spent adjusting to new routines, expectations, and learning styles at the beginning of the year.
* Increased teacher knowledge of individual student strengths, needs, and learning goals.
* Greater academic continuity and personalized support.
* Enhanced social-emotional stability as students navigate another year of growth and development.

Research consistently shows that looping can lead to increased student confidence, stronger classroom communities, and improved academic outcomes because teachers are able to build upon a deep understanding of each learner from day one.

As part of this structure, Level 6 students will participate in one specials class as members of the Intermediate School team. Students in Levels 7 and 8, who will comprise our Middle School program, will continue to participate in two specials classes as part of their daily schedule.

We also recognize that many students are excited about the additional gray uniform option available to our middle school students. We are pleased to share that Level 6 students will continue to be eligible to wear gray as part of their school uniform next year.

☀️ A Summer Message from Principal Trujillo ☀️

Hello Monarch Families 💛🦋
As another incredible school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership, support, and trust throughout the year. Together, we have celebrated achievements, overcome challenges, explored new opportunities, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

This year, our students performed on stages, showcased their artwork, explored careers and colleges, participated in field trips, built friendships across grade levels through House Meetings, and continued to grow as learners, artists, leaders, and community members. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our staff and the unwavering support of our families.

A special thank you to our volunteers, who contributed more than 800 hours of service to our school this year. Your time, talents, and generosity have enriched the experiences of our students and strengthened our Monarch community.

As summer begins, I encourage our students to continue learning, creating, reading, and exploring. Visit a library, spend time outdoors, create art, write stories, discover new interests, and most importantly, enjoy time with family and friends. Summer is a wonderful opportunity to recharge and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead.

To our students moving on to new opportunities, especially our 8th-graders who are continuing their journey beyond our walls, we are so proud of you and cannot wait to see all you accomplish.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall for another amazing year of learning, creativity, and community.

🐺A Note From Principal Bangsund
I am so excited to begin welcoming our incoming 9th graders to high school! I know this is an exciting time filled with celebrations, big milestones, and the anticipation of what comes next, and I cannot wait to meet and support each of you throughout your high school journey.
Throughout the summer, students and families can expect to receive communications from me via email in my newsletter, Westy's Family News. Summer updates will be sent during the weeks of June 22nd and July 20th, with weekly newsletters beginning every Friday starting August 7th. These communications will include important dates, back-to-school information, reminders, and updates to help make the transition to high school as smooth and exciting as possible.
Please mark your calendars for these upcoming important dates:
Thursday, August 6th at 5:00 PM: Freshman Ice Cream Social and Information Night. All 9th-grade students and families are highly encouraged to attend this event.
Tuesday, August 11th, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM: Freshman Orientation. All 9th-grade students are required to attend.
Wednesday, August 12th: First Day of School. Students are expected to be in class and ready to learn by 8:45 AM.
