After school programming starts soon for our students. Is your child registered?

Thank you for you participation in our school programing for the fall. All clubs are $10.00 for the duration of the club. Semester 1 clubs will run 3:45-5:00 September 8th through Oct. 29th. 🏀📝 Attention Mr. Emery's Level 8 Families 📚✨

Our Level 8 students are beginning an engaging new Arts & Letters module: The Power of Poetry!

Throughout this module, students will explore how narrative poetry combines storytelling and poetic expression to richly convey the human experience. They will examine how authors use stories and poetry to communicate complex experiences and universal truths while investigating the Essential Question:

What are the intersections between stories and poetry?

Students will build their knowledge and literacy skills through books, poems, articles, artwork, and knowledge-building videos, including their featured text, *The Crossover* by Kwame Alexander.

They will also plan, organize, and write a narrative poem about a personal life event they consider a “crossover.” Students will then write a paragraph explaining the narrative and poetic choices they made.

Our Level 7 students are beginning an exciting new Arts & Letters module: **The Middle Ages!**

Throughout this module, students will explore how the opportunities and limitations of medieval society influenced the lives and futures of adolescents. They will examine factors such as education, social class, and societal expectations while investigating the Essential Question:

How does society influence a person’s future?

Students will build their knowledge and literacy skills through books, poems, articles, artwork, and knowledge-building videos.

They will also plan, organize, and write narratives set during the Middle Ages. Students will practice writing from different points of view and using transitions, precise vocabulary, descriptive details, and sensory language. At the end of the module, they will write a narrative about a medieval adolescent who encounters someone from a different social class.

Our Level 6 students are beginning an important new Arts & Letters module: The Great Depression

Throughout this module, students will explore how Americans persisted, supported their communities, and demonstrated resilience during the Great Depression. Together, they will investigate the Essential Question:
How do people persevere through hardship?

Students will build their knowledge and literacy skills through books, poems, articles, historical photographs, artwork, and knowledge-building videos.

They will also plan, organize, and write narratives connected to the Great Depression. Students will practice writing dialogue and using precise language, descriptive details, and sensory language. At the end of the module, they will write a third-person narrative about a resilient character living during the Great Depression.

Throughout this module, students will learn about two Native American nations—the Nez Perce and the Ojibwe—by exploring their beliefs, traditions, languages, and ways of life. Together, they will investigate the Essential Question:

How do communities sustain their cultures?

Students will build their knowledge and literacy skills through stories, speeches, literature, artwork, and knowledge-building videos. They will also plan, organize, and write informative paragraphs and essays to share their knowledge of Nez Perce and Ojibwe cultures.
