We’re proud to recognize two members of the Denver Auditor’s Office for taking on new leadership roles with the Association of Local Government Auditors.

The original audit identified concerns with project governance, consultant oversight, documentation, and invoice processing. This follow-up examines what changed after those recommendations and what issues remain.

Follow-up audits are an important part of accountability because they show whether agencies actually addressed the risks identified in the original audit.

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the Hispanic workers who contribute to our city. This month on Ask the Auditor, we are highlighting the labor rights of day laborers and how Denver Labor can help protect them. Since many day laborers in Denver are part of our Hispanic community, for the first time, we are presenting Ask the Auditor in Spanish with English captions to make this important information more accessible to the workers and families we serve.

Day laborers face a high risk of wage theft and retaliation. They are often hired outside construction supply stores and transported directly to job sites for short-term or temporary work. In this video, you will learn about their wage rights and how Denver Labor responds when these workers don’t receive the wages they are owed.

En reconocimiento del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, honramos a los trabajadores hispanos que contribuyen a nuestra ciudad. Este mes, en Pregúntele al Auditor, destacamos los derechos laborales de los trabajadores por día y cómo Denver Labor puede ayudar a protegerlos. Debido a que muchos trabajadores por día en Denver forman parte de nuestra comunidad hispana, por primera vez presentamos Pregúntele al Auditor en español con subtítulos en inglés, para que esta información importante sea más accesible para todos los trabajadores y las familias a quienes servimos.

Los trabajadores por día se enfrentan a un alto riesgo de robo de salarios y represalias. This month’s Audit Committee meeting takes another look at the National Western Livestock Center Design audit.

The original audit found inadequate governance, documentation, and project oversight during the Livestock Center's design phase. Auditors identified concerns involving consultant oversight, cost estimation, invoice processing, recordkeeping, and access to project data.

Join us for the Sept. 17 Audit Committee meeting as we present our follow-up work and discuss the status of recommendations made to strengthen governance, transparency, and oversight of this major city project.

Audits do more than make recommendations. They put independent facts on the public record, identify risks, and give policymakers, the media, and the public information they can use to demand accountability and drive change.
