Makers Together, a nonprofit creative hub based in Appleton – with ties regionally to the Chippewa Valley – intends to uplift makers and artisans of all mediums and promote accessible education on starting a creative business. Members of the nonprofit host workshops, offer resources and guide one another through recurring virtual meetings.

On a monthly basis, Makers Together offers an in-person meet and greet open to its current members and the general public, co-founder Candi Teachman said. There, attendees have learned how to sign up for art shows, set up a tent and display, connect and talk about their art with the public, deal with unpredictable weather conditions and much more.

Eau Claire-based nonprofit, Flourishing Arts, hosted its latest "healing arts" offering with the community – the 'Afterlight' event – on Saturday, May 23 at the Pablo Center at the Confluence.

The one-night showcase of visual arts and music also acted as a fundraiser to support the organization's community engagement efforts this year and onward.

The atmosphere was alive with activity as visual artists – including Holli Jacobson and Terry Meyer – practiced their craft live, Eau Claire musicians performed heartfelt songs and area small businesses engaged with residents, organizers said.

Last year, Feed My People Food Bank’s Eau Claire area partners rescued and redistributed roughly 140,000 pounds of food per month. In total, FMP’s west central Wisconsin network distributes nearly nine million pounds of food per year to those in need.

As many local pantries and programs face increasing demand and tighter budgets – a national issue spotlighted during last fall’s government shutdown and subsequent pause of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known as FoodShare in Wisconsin – one crucial part of the food distribution process may be easy to overlook: transportation.

FMP’s current fleet of refrigerated box trucks and two vans rack up nearly 16,000 miles per month to do so. That’s why, this past winter, FMP approached Marshfield Clinic Health System for vehicle-related support.

As announced this spring, Marshfield Clinic fulfilled that ask and donated $85,000 toward the purchase of another refrigerated van for FMP.
