Assistance is available in Jackson County and surrounding areas. Applications are limited, so apply as soon as possible! To schedule an appointment for emergency assistance, call 361-578-2989. 💙 BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: GILMA MORENO 💙

Today we are proud to spotlight Gilma Moreno, who serves on the Palacios Community Hub Board of Directors and helps represent Calhoun County as we continue expanding our reach throughout the communities we serve.

Gilma brings 28 years of nursing experience and a tremendous heart for community health to our board. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Memorial Medical Center, spending eight years in Med/Surg before discovering an interest in occupational health nursing. She went on to work in occupational health at Alcoa and then spent 15 years as an Occupational Health Nurse with Dow Chemical.

Following COVID, Gilma took on a new challenge with the Texas Department of State Health Services, helping open a state-operated health clinic in Calhoun County. She served there for two years before joining Methodist Healthcare Ministries as a Wesley Nurse in Palacios.

It was through that role that Gilma first became connected with the Palacios Community Hub. Working alongside our staff and seeing the Hub’s programs and services firsthand inspired her to become even more involved by joining our Board of Directors.

Gilma now serves as a Wesley Nurse in Port Lavaca, and we are especially grateful to have her perspective and experience as we strengthen our connections in Calhoun County. Her background in healthcare, knowledge of the community, and passion for helping people make her an incredible resource for our organization.

One of the things we value most about our board is having members who understand the different communities we serve and can help us listen, build relationships, and respond to real needs. Gilma brings exactly that to the table.

Thank you, Gilma, for believing in the mission of the Palacios Community Hub and for continuing to serve alongside us. We are so fortunate to have you on our board! 💙

Thanks to the generosity of First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport and a few wonderful friends, we added another $650 today! We are now at $8,330 of our $10,000 goal!

Just $1,670 to go to unlock the additional $10,000 matching grant. ❤️

It continues to amaze me how this community is showing up—$5, $20, $50, $100 at a time. Every gift matters, and together, those gifts are becoming something BIG.

💙 LOOK AT THAT THERMOMETER! $7,680!!! 💙

What a weekend. What a community. ❤️

After adding $803 from Family Fun Day and the Old Smokey Cook-Off, we have officially raised $7,680 toward our $10,000 matching goal!

That means we are 76.8% of the way there and have just $2,320 LEFT TO RAISE! 🎉

Over the past several weeks, people have donated, bought meals, played Lotería, purchased tickets, bid on silent auction items, became vendors, cooked, ate, volunteered, shared our posts and simply showed up.

And THAT is what makes this so special.

We didn’t want this campaign to just be about asking people for money. We wanted to find ways to bring people together, have some fun and let lots of small acts of support add up to something BIG.

And look what you’ve done — $7,680!

Now we need one final push. 🙌

If we can raise the remaining $2,320 by August 31, the Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation will provide the $10,000 match.

Last night at Amplify the Hub at El Maton, this community showed up in a BIG way.

Between tickets, the silent auction, and all of the support throughout the evening, we raised an incredible…

💙 $2,778 IN ONE NIGHT! 💙

That takes our matching-fund campaign from $4,099 to $6,877!

We started this challenge with one goal: raise $10,000 from our community by August 31 so the Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation will match it with ANOTHER $10,000.

And now we are almost 69% THERE!
