The announcement this morning of Mackenzie Scott donating $84.5 million dollars to GSUSA and 29 councils is amazing news and we congratulate each of them! Every gift to Girl Scouts is a win for girls.
While Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest was not a recipient of the individual council grant from Ms. Scott, we applaud her for supporting girls during a time when it's critical to invest in their futures through organizations such as Girl Scouts. We hope that continuing this conversation inspires more donations in our own market, so we may continue to provide access to Girl Scout's life-changing experiences, mentoring, and programming to even more girls in our community.
We are calling on our West Texas and Southern New Mexico communities to continue their investment in girls through their support of Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest. The generosity of these communities will expand access to critical programs and support for the girls and families here.
We are working to fund in-school Girl Scouting programs such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, health and wellness, environmental awareness, STEM, and career exploration. We have over 180,000 girls who fit the age and demographics to join Girl Scouts in our areas. Many of these girls do not have access to transportation or funds for basic supplies that traditional Girl Scout programming requires. Providing programs in their schools is an option we are working toward to remove the barriers that prevent them from having the opportunity to learn more and have life changing experiences.
If you would like to help fund girls in our area, please visit our website at https://www.gsdsw.org/en/donors/ways-to-give.html

Join the Girl Scouts of the Southwest and Frontera Land Alliance in a multigenerational movement workshop led by UTEP faculty Sandra Paola López Ramírez. As part of the interdisciplinary project Experiencing the Bosque, Ms. López Ramírez will lead a 2-hour immersive experience at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park for girls and a female-identifying elder of their choice (their mom, aunt, aunty, grandmother, sister, friend). Using the body as an entry point to reconnection, we will move with and through the land and water at the site while reflecting on our power and possibility as women and female-identifying people.
We will meet at the Visitor Center at the Bosque Trailhead promptly at 10 am and move into the park from there. Arrive early, dress comfortably and bring water!
This is a new version of a "Mom and Me" event. Up to two Girl Scouts per female-identifying relative per registration allowed. Future Girl Scouts also welcomed. An email confirmation will be sent a week before the event.

Girl Scouts extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout troop, and every year since, we’ve honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. And with programs from coast to coast and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success. Our Mission Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scout Promise On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law. Girl Scout Law I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
