The Hardin County Animal Shelter is a managed intake, county-run shelter located in Elizabethtown, KY. The shelter accepts dogs and cats from Hardin County residents and offers these pets for adoption to the general public. The adoption fee for dogs is $90 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, shots and a county license. The adoption fee for cats is $60 and includes spay/neuter and shots. Barn cats

We have a special announcement to make !

Right now the shelter is very full and we have several dogs that have been looked over for some time so to help them find their forever homes we have lowered their adoptions to $27 or less.

But that's not all !

Our partners at Best Friends Animal Society have provided these select dogs with Go Home Kits. These kits include almost everything you need to set your new pet up for success including a new wire crate with a washable cushion, a matching harness and leash, a set of bowls, treats and a tough chewer toy !

Be sure to spread the word and help these sweet babies find their forevers !

We want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to the City of Elizabethtown for coming out to the shelter and spending time with our animals! 🐾

Your team walked our adoptable dogs, played with and socialized our puppies and kittens, and gave them something they all need so much—love, attention, and positive human interaction. 🐶🐱❤️

Meet Reed, a handsome 7-year-old Boxer/Pit Mix weighing 65 pounds. ❤️ Reed has been waiting at the shelter since the beginning of July, and we are ready to see this sweet boy find the forever home he deserves!

We found Cooper his forever family—now let’s find Reed’s! 🥹🏡

Reed has plenty of energy and loves his daily walks and playtime. He is incredibly social and loves everyone he meets. He also loves getting out and about, rides great in the car, and enjoys being part of the adventure!

Reed is smart, treat-motivated, knows his basic commands, and seems to be doing great with his potty training. He has so much love and personality to give, and we know his person is out there. ❤️
