I am pretty certain I am the first Blue Valley Community Action Partnership staff member to be approached by a tortoise at a community event.

Meet Julia! She's 7 and lives with our friends at Whispering Acres Tails and Treasures

Come see both of us this morning at the Beatrice Farmers Market at Indian Creek Mall! We'll talk about how we can work together to solve some of the toughest problems facing Gage County residents, from hunger to homelessness to building a stronger future.

We'll ask the tortoise what she thinks too!

Huge thank you to Food4Hope for organizing this nonprofit fair.

Early giving is OPEN for Big Give Gage and we're raising money to help people meet basic needs. Check out this link, donating is easy and quick.

If you're looking for a dollar amount to donate, how about $40? 40% of the people BVCA helps in Gage County are 17 or younger.
Or perhaps $237. Last year 237 households were helped in some way by our Family and Community Services office in Beatrice.
Or, if you're feeling REALLY generous, you could donate $2,004, to represent the number of food baskets we distributed last year in Gage County.
No matter the numbers, we can work together to help people solve problems and work toward a better life. We truly appreciate your support.

Day 2 at National Community Action Partnership Annual convention. Today featured a legislative update from David Bradley and some remarkable breakout sessions.
We want to do some special recognitions. First to Rob and Liz Heller of Bukaty Companies . Bukaty is one of our top sponsors here at BVCA and Liz was a guest at our lunch in Fairbury in May. It was a nice surprise to see them.
Second, Alexis and Mindi with Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties did an outstanding job with the presentation they led. Great work.
Third, shout out to Madison Bennett of Wymore Head Start for this great pic taken from the top of the Archway National Monument over the lunch break!
There's one more session tomorrow morning. We are excited to bring a lot of new ideas back to better help the people in our communities overcome poverty.

Many of BVCA 's strongest advocates are people who have benefitted from one or, often times, more than one of our programs.
Shannon Dohmen is an excellent example of this. She's been a BVCA board member for 7 years, representing Gage County in the consumer sector.
In the third and final part of her interview with us, Shannon shares some of the insights she's gained into the organization, as a board member.

Here in part two of her sit -down with BVCA, board member Shannon Dohmen shares more about how our organization benefited her and her family as she worked hard to earn first an associate's degree, and then her bachelor's.
Shannon said BVCA staff were great advocates who went above and beyond.
We're grateful to her for sharing her experience, and we are also grateful to all who support BVCA and our work with folks just like Shannon. Remember us on Sept. 10 during Big Give Gage!

What do we mean by emergency assistance? That refers to helping people meet basic needs: shelter, food, utilities, even prescriptions. Being unable to meet these needs has devastating consequences in both the short and long term, especially for kids. With your support, BVCA can head those troubles off at the pass, so to speak.

Shannon Dohmen has a unique perspective on BVCA's impact in Gage County specifically and our service area as a whole. Her family has been enrolled in Project First, Early Head Start and Head Start, and Shannon has in turn offered her own service as a program volunteer and board member.
She sat down with BVCA recently to share her experience. Here in part one of her interview, Shannon gives a bit of background on herself and how she was first involved with our organization.
BVCA is excited to participate in Big Give Gage on Sept. 10!

BUTLER COUNTY come see us next Tuesday at the library in David City! Our great housing department is hosting a seminar on disaster preparedness.
We all see the devastating effects natural disasters have on communities. What can you do to stay ready, for yourself, your family and your town? If it seems overwhelming, it doesn't have to be. BVCA Housing can help, offering guidance, tips and strategies for when the worst happens.
This meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and all attendees are entered for the chance to win a premium first aid kit! We'll see you Tuesday Sept. 8 in David City.
