MISSING PERSON…AT RISK: BERTHA SISTRUNK
If this post has not been updated, we are still actively searching for Bertha. Details below last updated 10-12-20 @ 3:30PM.
As seen in Silver Alert, news, and social media posts, 78yo Bertha Sistrunk is still missing. She is a 5’5” tall black female, approximately 170lbs, with short black hair.
She was first reported as wearing a blue and pink robe with a blue night cap and socks. Since the initial investigation, additional descriptions have included her wearing khaki pants or dark orange and khaki pants; a black/white printed or floral design shirt; possibly a purple sweater; and/or a blue/green jacket or ¾ length tan jacket.
While she resides on the East side of Fairmont, She was last seen approximately 9PM on Monday September 28th on Ogden Ave near Windmill Park.
We would like anyone who may have seen her to please contact us at 304-366-4200. In addition to looking for Bertha, our Detectives are seeking video that may show where she may have visited or traveled from the 28th, on.
Her family reported her as missing to us the evening of Friday October 2nd. She was entered as a missing person and a Silver Alert was requested the same night; as well as officers beginning a search. The search expanded. Mountaineer Area Rescue Group, Marion County Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Monongalia County Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency, and many other agencies have augmented efforts with manpower for ground searches, canine search teams, drone searches, and search management. There are many people wanting to assist, but It is extremely difficult for us to properly manage and map individual volunteers and small groups of people wanting to help. Over the past week, multiple days we have had up to 50 volunteers in concerted efforts to search, in addition to officers, K9 units, WVNRP, Fire Dept, Deputies, etc. We have unsuccessfully searched sections of North Side, Jackson's Addition, East Side, and the Mon River. Coordinated search efforts will resume if we receive information or leads we can follow-up on. Her information has been distributed across state lines in hopes additional leads may be generated as well. Any lead should be called in to 911 or 304-366-4200/4201 immediately, but Detective Buck is the lead investigator if you have a specific request (can be reached through above number).
We are all hopeful.
