We’re opening Affirmations for a Juneteenth celebration with MiGen and our Youth Advisory Council.

Bring the poem you’ve been sitting with. The song you want people to hear. The story you weren’t sure you were ready to tell. Or even just yourself, ready to listen.

However you show up, this is a night for community across generations — for honoring Black freedom, creativity, memory, and the voices that carry us forward.

Pride is not just something we celebrate once a year.

It is something we keep building and making room for, together.

For more than 35 years, Affirmations has been part of LGBTQ+ life in Southeast Michigan. That history is meaningful because community spaces are shaped by the people who build them, return to them, challenge them, and help imagine what they can become next.

This Pride Month, Affirmations Executive Director Tracy Hall is inviting our community back through our doors — not to recreate what Affirmations once was, but to help shape what it can be now.

One way to celebrate Pride? Feed your community. 💜

Affirmations’ food pantry helps people access food with dignity, and we need our community’s help keeping it stocked.

We’re accepting shelf-stable items like canned meats, canned meals, soups, beans, pasta, cereal, oatmeal, snacks, granola bars, protein bars, and Ensure Max Protein Drinks.

Drop off donations from the list anytime at the Affirmations front desk.

Pride is joy. Pride is resistance. Pride is also showing up with mac and cheese, granola bars, and canned soup because community care is not a metaphor!

Our next Bridging Generations Open Mic is a Juneteenth celebration, created in partnership with MiGen and Affirmations’ Youth Advisory Council.

We’re gathering across generations for an all-ages night of poetry, music, storytelling, spoken word, joy, memory, resistance, and whatever else our community brings to the room.

This open mic centers q***r and trans community, with deep love for the Black artists, storytellers, elders, youth, and neighbors whose voices make Juneteenth worth honoring out loud.

It’s Pride month, so everything is a little louder and gayer than usual.

This month at Affirmations we’ve got Q***r Yoga, a Q***r Hustle Dance Class, a Juneteenth Open Mic, and free pizza with cuties in your community.

Come stretch. Come dance. Come sit quietly in the back and clap for other people. Come get pizza. Come be gay in public with us.

Shop small. Shop local. Support q***r community. 💜

This Thursday, June 4 is Give OUT Day, a national day of giving for LGBTQ+ nonprofits — and our Nine Mile neighbors really showed up for us.

If you shop at any of these participating businesses on Thursday, a portion of your purchase will go directly to Affirmations for Give OUT Day. Coffee, lunch, treats, drinks, dinner, cute little errands you were already going to run? Suddenly, they are supporting q***r community. We love when that happens.

A huge thank you to the local businesses helping keep our doors open with proceeds donations, special Pride menu items, and more. Your support helps sustain LGBTQ+ programs, services, and community space right here at home.

And then come hang out with us at Ferndale Project from 5–7 PM for our Give OUT Day Patio Party. Appetizers are on us, beer will be available for purchase, and proceeds support Affirmations programming.

Free HIV and STI testing clinics, available at Affirmations. 💜

Each month, we host a range of clinics designed to support our community’s health and well-being. Services are safe, confidential, and open to all, with offerings that may include HIV testing, STI screening, vaccines, and additional health services.

Appointments and walk-ins vary by clinic. Residency is not required.
