Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson Announces Gender β€œX” Markers on Identification in Michigan

Thank you to Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and the greater LGBTQ+ Community of Metro Detroit for sharing space with Affirmations for such an important announcement.

Michiganders who wish to change their sex-marker to "X" will be able to do so by filling out the correction form and returning it to any Secretary of State office.

They are encouraged to schedule a visit for a license or ID correction by visiting Michigan.gov/SOS or calling 888-SOS-MICH.

Allilsa Fernandez is a mental health, disability activist, and consultant. They have worked with companies such as Lionsgate, Facebook, and Verizon and volunteered for Sylvia Rivera Law Project to work on TGNC shelter organizing and Met counsel on Housing Justice.

Live ASL Interpreting and CART services will be provided.

The Intersectional Storytelling Series is made possible in part by a grant from Michigan Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Reopened for new participants! Survey on Asexual Transgender & Gender Nonconforming Experiences of Minority Stress, Resilience, and Mental Health Be part of an important research study. Are you 18 or older? Do you identify as asexual (inclusive of demisexual, gray-a, and other asexual sub-identities)? Do you identify as transgender or gender nonconforming (TGNC)? Are you a US resident? Are you willing to take a 40-minute survey about your social experiences as an asexual TGNC person? If you answered YES to ALL of these questions, please take this survey (note the first page is informed consent and takes you to a second page with the option to select the asexual experience survey) https://columbiangwu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3mcZRFoyJbzx18q The purpose of this study is to renew professional interest in a subgroup of individuals who experience unique difficulties and stigma in navigating societal pressure to engage in sexual activity. Benefits include gaining a better understanding of yourself and your experiences or satisfy your curiosity about this study. Indirect benefits may include helping therapists and researchers better understand the unique concerns of individuals who are asexual compared to individuals who are allosexual. This study is conducted by Jared Boot, a doctoral student at the Michigan School of Psychology, 26811 Orchard Lake Rd. It was on October 6th, 1998 Matthew Shepard, a gay student, was lured away from a Laramie Wyoming bar and beaten and tortured. He was left tied to a fence through a freezing cold night. He would pass away 6 day later on October 12, 1998 in the ICU of a Colorado hospital.

Survey on Asexual Transgender & Gender Nonconforming Experiences of Minority Stress, Resilience, and Mental Health Be part of an important research study. Are you 18 or older? Do you identify as asexual (inclusive of demisexual, gray-a, and other asexual sub-identities)? Do you identify as transgender or gender nonconforming (TGNC)? Are you a US resident? Are you willing to take a 40-minute survey about your social experiences as an asexual TGNC person? Hello! My name is Dr. Em Matsuno (they/them) and I am an assistant professor in counseling psychology at Arizona State University. I developed a resource for parents of trans and nonbinary youth called the Parent Support Program. The program includes educational videos, interviews with parents and their kids, writing activities, and more! The program was developed in collaboration with several parents of trans youth and experts in trans mental health. The program is currently being studied to see if it is effective and has been approved by the IRB at Palo Alto University. The last day to sign up is September 30th.
