Happy National Dog Day! Today we’re celebrating some very important members of the library family, our staff’s canine companions! They may not have library cards, but they’re experts at curling up with a good book, providing moral support, and reminding us when it’s time to take a walk. Take a look at these lovable pups who keep our library staff company when we’re off the clock! Now it’s your turn; show us your canine companion in the comments!

Today, we lost a legend. Libraries lost a true friend, and generations of young readers lost their beloved “Book Lady.” Dolly Parton shared her amazing music with the world, but she also gave millions of children something life-changing: their very own books.

Dolly began Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in 1995, inspired by her father, who could not read or write. What began in her home county in Tennessee grew into a global program that puts books straight into the hands and homes of children.

At our library, we have been lucky to witness a part of that legacy. We see families light up when they get a new book, children find a favorite story, and parents and caregivers enjoy special moments reading together.

There will never be another Dolly.

But somewhere tonight, a child will ask to hear their favorite book just one more time.

That might be one of the most beautiful parts of her legacy.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and most of all, for believing that every child deserves a story. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
