Summer storms can bring heavy rain, damaging winds, lightning, and localized flooding with little warning. Taking a few simple steps now can help keep you and your family safe.

A little preparation goes a long way:
✔️ Monitor weather alerts.
✔️ Charge your devices.
✔️ Bring in or secure outdoor items.
✔️ Never drive through flooded roads.
✔️ Have a flashlight and emergency supplies ready.
✔️ If you have plans to be outdoors, have a safe area of refuge scoped out that you can get to immediately.

Happy Fourth of July! As we come together to celebrate this historic 250th anniversary, the Fredericksburg Fire Department wants everyone to have a fun, safe, and memorable day with family and friends.

Before you fire up the grill or head out to enjoy the festivities, keep these safety reminders in mind:

🚫 Fireworks are not allowed in City parks
🍻 Alcohol is prohibited in parks and public spaces
💧 Stay hydrated, especially while spending time outdoors!
🏊🏼 Swimming is discouraged. If you do swim, 𝘿𝙊 𝙉𝙊𝙏 swim alone
🔥 Keep grills and other flammable items away from people, structures, and trees

The City remains under an Extreme Heat Warning until 8pm today, then we will be under another Extreme Heat Warning tomorrow from 10am to 8pm. An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for Saturday, July 4th from 10am to 8pm, and this will most likely become an Extreme Heat Warning. One of the tools that can be used to determine the impact on populations is the NWS Heat Risk. In partnership with the CDC, this tool provides another perspective for how heat impacts the body.
