Have you ever wanted to be one of those “Spotters” that the news talks about during severe weather? Well, here is your chance! Staff from the National Weather Service- Sterling Office will be coming to Fredericksburg on Thursday, December 10th, and they will be delivering the SKYWARN Basics Class. This is the gateway class for all of the other SKYWARN Classes. This is your opportunity to put Fredericksburg, Virginia on the Weather Report Maps during severe weather. Here are the requirements:
You must be at least 18 years old
You must be able to observe the weather (no instruments required)
You must have access to a telephone to call in reports, or be able to report information through an Amateur Radio Network
Here is a link to the NWS SKYWARN Page: https://www.weather.gov/lwx/skywarn

You don’t have to be a member of an agency, department or office, nor do you need to be part of public safety. This is a class meant for the whole community. We hope to see you there!

Today we were fortunate to host 16 of our retirees for our annual event. This included two previous Deputy Chiefs, and two previous Shift Commanders (from a time when we only had two staffed shifts). Thank you to everyone who came and everyone who made this a success!

This morning, the City of Fredericksburg gathered with members of our community to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the people who lost their lives, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the courage and compassion shown in the days that followed.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸
