What does philanthropy look like to you?

Through the Images that Shape Montana Art Contest, we’re inviting Montana artists and photographers to capture the people, places, and moments that demonstrate how generosity helps communities flourish.

From education and community vitality to conservation and health and well-being, there are countless ways philanthropy shapes life across Montana. We want to see those stories through your creative lens.

Four category winners will receive $500, and one grand prize winner will receive $1,500, along with recognition through Montana Community Foundation publications and our 2026 Impact Report.

Supporting strong communities starts with investing in the people and projects that make them thrive.

The Montana Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the Blaine County Community Foundation Fund. Established by Warren Ross in 1997, the fund provides financial support for projects that benefit communities and residents of Blaine County. Additional support for this grant cycle comes from the Ross 87 Ranch Endowment Fund.

Grants range from $500 to $2,000 and are available to 501(c)(3) nonprofits and exempt governmental units. Organizations do not need to be based in Blaine County, but proposed projects must directly benefit Blaine County residents, be sustainable, and address important unmet needs.

The grant cycle is open August 15 through October 15, 2026. Only one application is allowed per organization.

Please join us in celebrating three well-deserved promotions at the Montana Community Foundation!

Jessica Stewart has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Since joining MCF in 2015, Jessica has helped shape Montana’s future in giving while fostering an organizational culture that empowers our team to be its best. She brings more than 15 years of experience in community organizing and engagement across a wide range of communities and social issues.

Jim Bennett has been promoted to Vice President of Philanthropy. Jim joined MCF in 2021 and brings extensive expertise in relationship management, fund development, and donor stewardship. Around MCF, we jokingly call him “Jim Bacon Bennett”—because there never seem to be more than seven degrees of separation between Jim and anyone in Montana. He knows everyone!

Rebecca Connors has been promoted to Vice President of Communications. Since joining MCF in 2023, Rebecca has drawn on her background in project management, stakeholder engagement, communications, and marketing to share the stories of generosity and impact happening across Montana. She looks forward to continuing to tell MCF’s stories and inspiring the next generation of giving.

This week, we're featuring Health & Well-being, a category that highlights the many ways philanthropy can help Montanans live healthier, more connected lives and strengthen the well-being of communities across our state.

This year's Women's Equality Day postcard hit mailboxes last week. We wanted to take the time to share it here for those who haven't had the chance to see it. At WFM, we are actively investing in the leaders who shape Montana's future. Plenty Doors Community Development Corporation in Crow Agency is building the capacity of Native, women-led nonprofits. Montana Advocates for Children is working to expand access to affordable childcare. EmpowerMT's UpRising Fellowship is equipping young leaders with the skills to create lasting change in Montana. These are just a few of the indispensable ways our grantees are making a difference in Montana communities and building Montana leaders.

The application deadline has been extended!

If you’ve been considering joining the Montana Community Foundation team, there’s still time to apply for our Grants and Accounts Payable Administrator position in Helena.

This role supports two important areas of MCF’s work: grantmaking and scholarships, and finance. From managing and monitoring grants through the processing of accounts payable, this position helps ensure the systems behind MCF’s work are organized, accurate, and effective.

As part of the MCF team, you’ll contribute to our mission to create a culture of giving so Montana communities can flourish while working alongside people who value collaboration, empowerment, and professional excellence.

Community Foundation of Northern Rosebud County Celebrates 20 Years and $1 Million Milestone.

On July 31st, Heather Ohs attended a celebration in Forsyth honoring the Community Foundation of Northern Rosebud County as they marked 20 years of community impact and surpassed the $1 million mark.

Here's what Heather had to say about the special event:

"The celebration featured a spaghetti feed hosted by local community foundation board members in partnership with the library. The evening also included the announcement of LCF's newest library sub fund, creating another opportunity for local philanthropy to support the community for years to come. There is a 2:1 match for this endowment offered by Ellen Coker.

It was especially meaningful to see current and former foundation board members, the previous librarian, and other community supporters come together to celebrate this important milestone. The gathering was a wonderful reflection of the dedication and generosity that have helped make the foundation successful over the past 20 years."
