At Montana Community Foundation, we believe philanthropy is one of the most powerful ways people can leave a lasting impact on the communities they love.

In our 2025 FY Impact Report, we are honored to share the story of Alan “Uncle Alan” Roberts, a man whose generosity continues to support future generations across Montana and beyond. Through thoughtful planned giving, Alan created a legacy rooted in family, compassion, and opportunity.

His story is a reminder that giving is not only about what we contribute today, but the lasting difference we can make for years to come.

We’re proud to share an exciting milestone for Montana Community Foundation. This year, we launched our Corporate Partnership Program, an initiative inviting businesses to invest in the long-term success of Local Community Foundations across Montana. These locally rooted organizations are on the front lines of strengthening our communities, and this program helps ensure they have permanent, reliable resources to continue that work for generations to come.

We are especially grateful to welcome our inaugural partner, First Interstate Bank, as a Golden Valley Partner. Their leadership and commitment to community investment set a powerful example of what’s possible when businesses step forward to shape Montana’s future. Together, we’re building stronger, more resilient communities, and we invite others who share this vision to join us.

The Montana Community Foundation is proud to announce $7,700 in grants from the Darby Town Endowment Fund to support projects that strengthen and serve the Darby community.

This year’s grant recipients include:

• Bitterroot Heritage Center — $2,000 for community signage, event promotion, and heritage banner restoration
• Darby Community Public Library — $890 for a new cataloging computer system
• Bitterroot Early Learning Network – Evergreen Kids Corner — $3,310 to replace classroom materials at Little Tigers Child Care

“The Darby Town Endowment Fund is a great example of how local generosity can create meaningful, lasting change,” said Barbara Ackerman, founding donor and member of the grantmaking committee. “These grants support projects that directly benefit residents today while helping build a stronger Darby for the future.”

Montana communities thrive when local organizations have access to the capital they need to grow and lead lasting change. Through the Montana Impact Investing Program, Montana Community Foundation is proud to support Native American Community Development Corporation Financial Services, Inc. (NACDC), a Native Community Development Financial Institution based in Browning on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

NACDC expands access to affordable financing for Native American entrepreneurs, small businesses, and Native homebuyers in and near reservation communities. Their work is helping close the homeownership gap and creating opportunities for Indigenous families to build stability, generational wealth, and stronger futures in their communities.

As part of our 2025 FY Impact Report, we are honored to highlight NACDC as one of the first investments made through the Montana Impact Investing Program. Together, we are advancing community impact while investing in the long-term strength and resilience of Montana communities.

Many Montanans want to give back in meaningful ways, they just need a trusted partner to help turn their values into lasting impact. At the Montana Community Foundation, our team of experts can help you achieve your giving goals.

What many people may not realize is that giving through the Montana Endowment Tax Credit (METC) can be a true win-win. Donors may receive substantial state tax credits while also making a lasting gift to the causes, communities, and organizations they care about most, helping strengthen Montana for generations to come.

This recent article from Montana Free Press walks readers through how the METC works and how charitable giving can help shape Montana’s future through giving.

Every day, Indigenous college students in Montana face unexpected financial hardships that can put their education at risk. Through the Indigenous Student Rapid Assistance Fund, the Montana Community Foundation helps ensure that a temporary crisis does not derail a student’s future.

This year, the fund awarded $34,384 in emergency grants to 30 students across the state — distributing 99.5% of available funds directly to students in need.

Support from donors provides immediate assistance for urgent expenses, including:
• Emergency food and housing costs
• Medical and mental health care
• Childcare and dependent support
• Essential technology and academic resources
• Unexpected travel needs

This is the power of philanthropy in action across Montana.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of expanding access to mental health support and investing in the people who dedicate their lives to helping others.

The Landon Hull Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund honors Landon’s legacy by supporting students pursuing careers in mental health and related fields. Through this scholarship, future counselors, advocates, and mental health professionals can continue making a meaningful difference in communities across Montana.

Mental health impacts individuals, families, friends, coworkers, and entire communities. By supporting initiatives like this fund, we can help create a stronger, more compassionate future for all Montanans.
