During Art at Big Fireweed, we have been working on drawing from observation. Our artist spotlight has been on local artist Kim McNett and Alaskan illustrator Kristin Link. We spent several days field sketching and sketching leaves directly in the classroom. We learned about contour drawings to include blind contour and continuous contour drawings as a way to begin our sketches. We furthered our artwork by outlining with pen or fine sharpie, watercolor paints, and colored pencils or markers. The elements of art focus are on line and shape. If you're in the building, check out the art up on our wall!

When recess turns into an impromptu Talent Show, you pull up a milk-crate stool. This was entirely thought up and performed by our creative K-2 students.
