Proposals are requested for the Pili Nā Moku Community Funding Opportunity and Request for Proposals (RFP).

University of Hawai'i Sea Grant College Program, in alignment with the cooperative vision of the Pili Nā Moku project, invites proposals to support ʻāina-based conservation and restoration, network building, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and community-centered governance. This opportunity is focused on five moku or hui moku in 1) West Kauaʻi; 2) Waiʻanae, Oʻahu; 3) Molokaʻi 4) Central Maui; and 5) Kohala, Hawaiʻi.

Estuaries, found where freshwater meets the sea, are nurseries for native and endemic fish, home to waterbirds, and gathering places for cultural practices that connect communities to the 'āina. The Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, Coastal Zone Management Program and the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Aquatic Resources have partnered to develop the Hawaiian Estuaries Viewer, the first Statewide map of Hawaiʻi's estuaries. The new Hawaiian Estuaries Viewer makes it easy to explore these unique ecosystems, learn about the coastal wildlife found there, and understand why these places matter to our islands.
