2026 Commissioning Ceremony | University of Hawai‘i Army ROTC

On May 17th, the Warrior Battalion proudly commissioned our MSIV cadets as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army. This milestone marks the culmination of their ROTC journey and the beginning of their service as Army officers.

We were honored to host guest speakers Major General Lance A. Okamura, Deputy Commanding General USARPAC and Allen Hoe, whose words of leadership and experience inspired our newest 2LTs as they step into the profession of arms.

A special thank you to our PMS, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Kelley, for his unwavering leadership, mentorship, and dedication to developing the next generation of Army officers.

The Class of 2026 was officially sworn in by General Okamura and now stands ready to lead with purpose, discipline, and commitment.

Aloha Warrior Battalion!

Congratulations to Hawai‘i Army ROTC alumnus, Class of May 2023, 1LT Vance Oya, who branched Signal, on earning his Ranger Tab! After commissioning and stepping into the role of a leader in the U.S. Army, he has now successfully completed one of the military’s toughest leadership courses United States Army Ranger School.

Ranger School is known for pushing Soldiers to their physical and mental limits, testing endurance, resilience, and small-unit leadership under extreme conditions. His achievement reflects the discipline, grit, and resilience developed right here in the islands.

We’re proud to see our alumni continue to lead from the front and represent Hawai‘i with excellence. This is what right looks like.

Aloha Warrior Battalion!

On Friday, our cadets demonstrated exceptional grit and discipline during the CSM Challenge at Kapiolani Park. This premier event was designed to identify the top-performing squad within the battalion. Equipped with 35-pound rucks, squads navigated a course consisting of four rigorous stations that tested their physical and mental skills.

Every participant displayed immense dedication, but after a hard-fought competition, 2nd Squad, Alpha Company emerged as the victors.

Events of this nature serve a purpose far beyond competition; they forge the camaraderie and mutual trust essential for leadership. As we prepare for this year’s Field Training Exercise (FTX), the bonds formed during this challenge will be the foundation of our success in the field.

Aloha Warrior Battalion!

The Battalion conducted a cold-load training lab at Wheeler Army Airfield. Under the guidance of the Hawaii Army National Guard, the battalion practiced precision entry, exit, and safety procedures for both UH-60 Blackhawks and CH-47 Chinooks.

Hands-on sessions like these are vital for building tactical proficiency and situational awareness. By practicing these safety measures and movement repetitions, our Cadets are ensuring a higher standard of excellence and safety for the upcoming FTX next week.

Aloha Warrior Battalion!

This morning, cadets took notes as the MS4s delivered the Base Order Brief, gaining a clear understanding of the area of operations for our three days in the field. The information gathered today will translate directly into the tactics and situational awareness required for a successful FTX.

With only one week to go, now is the time to dial in. Everything you’ve learned has led to this—keep up the great work!
