NBHP's 2026-2027 Board of Directors have officially been slated. We would like to begin our spotlight by highlighting our returning Vice-Chair, Nadine Scamp.

Nadine Scamp currently serves as President and CEO for Northwest Assistance Ministries. Prior to joining NAM, Nadine served as the CEO of Santa Maria for twelve years and served in various leadership capacities for Volunteer of America Texas. Nadine has over twenty years of nonprofit leadership experience developing and directing programs and organizations for women and families, with particular focus on behavioral health, re-entry, and housing services. She has a passion for creation of programs that build hope, healing and purpose within individuals and families and promotion of larger scale change that builds community stability and resiliency.

Nadine holds a BA in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Houston. Nadine has been published in several peer-reviewed journals related to her work. Related board and committee service includes the Network of Behavioral Health Providers Board of Directors, the Pathways Community HUB Community Advisory Council, Community Engagement Advisory Board for Baylor College of Medicine/University of Houston’s Consortium for Translational and Precision Health, and the Houston/Harris County Office of Drug Policy Task Force.

NBHP's 2026-2027 Board of Directors have officially been slated. We would like to begin our spotlight by highlighting our new Board Chair, Armando Colombo.

Armando E. Colombo began his tenure as president and chief executive officer at The Menninger Clinic on September 16, 2019.

Colombo has spent the majority of his career in health care management. Prior to joining Menninger, he had most recently been executive vice president and chief operating officer at Sheppard Pratt Health System, the nation’s largest private, nonprofit provider of mental health, substance use, developmental disability and social services.

Before joining Sheppard Pratt in 2017, he served as chief executive officer of Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital and interim chief executive officer of Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Colombo also has experience in other specialty hospitals, health insurance and professional services.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from St. Louis University.

NBHP's WREDI Program is excited to announce our 2026-2027 Marion T. Coleman Pathways Behavioral Health Scholarship. Scholarship awards range from $1,500-$2,500 for undergraduate and graduate level students completing the final year of a behavioral health degree or educational program. 🎉 That’s a wrap on the 2026 WREDI Summer Externship! 🎓

Congratulations to our 2026 WREDI Summer Externship cohort on successfully completing this summer’s program! Over the past several weeks, our externs explored careers in behavioral health, gained hands-on experience at host sites across the Houston area, connected with industry professionals, participated in professional development opportunities, and strengthened the skills needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

At our graduation celebration, we recognized each extern’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to growing as future behavioral health professionals. We also celebrated the continued investment in the next generation through $28,000 in WREDI scholarships, helping students continue their educational and professional journeys.

We are incredibly proud of all that this cohort has accomplished and can’t wait to see where their paths lead next. Thank you to our host sites, community partners, mentors, and everyone who helped make this summer a success.

A special thank you to Program Manager Sydney Carter for her leadership, mentorship, and dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for our externs. We also extend our appreciation to Doreisha Morgan, Assistant, for her support in coordinating program activities, assisting with events, and helping ensure a successful experience for the 2026 cohort.

As one chapter closes, another begins. We hope each extern leaves this program with new knowledge, lasting connections, and the confidence to pursue a meaningful career in behavioral health.

🌟 Another impactful Professional Development Day for our WREDI Summer Externs! 🌟

Last Friday, our externs continued exploring the many facets of behavioral health through immersive learning experiences.

Students toured the John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, where they learned about innovative psychiatric care and the vital role of inpatient behavioral health services for individuals living with severe mental illness.

After the tour, externs returned for an inspiring Lived Experience Panel, where peer specialists shared their personal journeys of recovery, resilience, and hope. Hearing firsthand stories reinforced the importance of compassion, advocacy, and person-centered care in behavioral health.

🌟 WREDI Summer Externship Professional Development Day 🌟

Last Thursday, our externs had the opportunity to explore behavioral health services from multiple perspectives through hands-on learning and professional development.

Students toured Santa Maria Hostel’s Bonita House, gaining insight into residential recovery services for women and families. They also participated in a leadership training led by Mahtab Moradi, LMFT, of Ibn Sina Avicenna Clinics, where they explored the importance and implications of stigma within the field of behavioral health.

From site visits to meaningful discussions, our externs continue to deepen their understanding of the many ways behavioral health professionals support individuals, families, and communities.

We are excited to watch this cohort continue to learn, grow, and lead throughout the summer! 💙💚

✨ Professional Development Day with the 2026 WREDI Summer Externship Cohort ✨

Last Friday , our externs participated in an engaging Professional Development Day focused on learning, connection, and career exploration within the behavioral health field.

The day began with Behavioral Health Professional Speed Networking, where students connected with professionals representing a variety of disciplines and organizations across the behavioral health community. Thank you to:

Students also participated in Brave Talk, a presentation from Gustavo Molinar, MA, with The JED Foundation, which focused on mental health awareness, help-seeking, and supporting peers.

One of the most meaningful moments of the day came after the program when a student shared how they used an extra meal provided during the event:

💚 “I gave the food to a homeless man. He was so grateful and actually told me that he had no idea how he was going to eat that day. He said God sent my sister and I for him. It was really sweet.”

Moments like these remind us that behavioral health is about more than careers it is about compassion, service, connection, and making a difference in our communities.
