Tomorrow is International Dog Day and we're celebrating these adorable pooches early by highlighting Paws for Therapy (). This organization brings joy and warmth to our clients on a regular basis through pet visits to our Montrose campus.

A team of volunteer handlers and their precious therapy dogs come by our treatment program regularly to interact with both clients and staff. This program brings a smile to everyone's faces and helps relieve stress and anxiety. We love our Paws for Therapy volunteers—both the two-legged and four-legged!

Today is World Listening Day! This day was created to draw attention to the way humans need to be listening to the world around us and how it not only affects the enviorment, but also our mental health!

Here are a few things you can do to appreciate this day that will also help create some mental relief for you. 👂

1. Take a silent walk alone in the park or around your neighborhood. Silence your phone and just open those ears to listen to the natural surrounding world. 🔕 🌳

2. Organize a listening party. Close your eyes, relax and listen.

3. Reduce noise pollution around you, by closing doors to loud appliances.

Over the last two months, The Women's Home has provided clients with classes with the Harris County Public Health Breathe with Pride Program. In these classes, clients who were interested in quitting smoking created "a plan."

To support these plans, health advocates from HCPH will continue to come out to The Women's Home to check-in with the clients on their progress and provide support and resources. We are so thankful for the Breath with Pride initiative and for the support that they provide our clients looking to kick this addiction!

Last week our Development Coordinator, Kaitlin Bunsen, attended the Fast Pitch Program annual event. This event is designed to give their employees the ability to have a positive impact in their community.

Each year the campaign allows for GEICO associates to pitch for funds for their favorite charity. After being voted on by their peers, the top winners then pitch their idea live in front of a committee that determines the donation GEICO will give to their organization.

This year, our former client Angela Wilson pitched The Women's Home as a deserving non-profit. Her story was so moving and inspiring that her pitch won the top prize and The Women's Home recieved a $10,000 donation! We are so grateful to Angela for her courage and strength to tell her story to help improve the lives of other women through our organization. 👏❤️💪

Thank you to Angela and GEICO for this gracious gift!

Recently, volunteers from a local branch of Chase Bank led a fantastic lunch-and-learn for our clients on financial literacy and interview skills. 🥪 ✏️

Clients were able to engage in an interactive Q&A session where they benefitted from the volunteers' many years of banking experience. Not only that, but this awesome group of ladies collected tons of professional attire to donate to The Cottage Shop! We thank Chase Bank for taking the time to volunteer to educate our clients!

Thank you for being part of that community. We hope you will consider a year-end gift as we look to the future with gratitude and hope. Thank you so much. https://www.thewomenshome.org/donate/

For the first time, HomeAid Houston teamed up with HomeAid Orlando and HomeAid Phoenix for a multi-city care kit assembly event with Taylor Morrison’s People Services Department. Across different states and time zones, the three groups joined together virtually to assemble almost 900 kits for three local homeless care providers! HomeAid Houston assembled and delivered nearly 120 kits to The Women's Home .

Thank you Taylor Morrison for your commitment to HomeAid and the community.
