Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

For Mayor John Escoto and his family, September 11 carries a deeply personal connection. His daughter, Lorraine Escoto, was working on the 100th floor of 2 World Trade Center that morning.

After seeing the first tower in flames, Lorraine made the decision to begin the long walk down 100 flights of stairs. While she was evacuating, the second plane struck her building. She made it out safely, but lost friends and colleagues that day.

This week, City Council also approved a proclamation recognizing September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in the City of Shenandoah.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, honor those who responded and served, and ensure the stories of that day are never forgotten.

The City’s AMI Project is still underway, with water meter replacements continuing throughout Shenandoah.

Crews are anticipated to move from Boulevard Green to the Valley neighborhood this week. Workers will be in marked vehicles while completing installations.

🌺🌷Congratulations to Shenandoah's September Yard of the Month winners, Christy and Malcom Mittag, and their dog Willie, on Avalon Oaks Ct!

The Mittags have lived in Shenandoah since 2005. The irises lining their side yard came from Christy's grandmother's home in Waco in the late 1960s and have traveled with them from home to home until landing in Shenandoah!

Water meter replacements begin today!

Crews will begin replacing water meters in Parkgate Reserve and installing pressure monitoring equipment throughout Shenandoah. This project will take several months to complete across the city.

Work will be completed by Ameresco and Second Sight Systems. Crews will have marked vehicles and vests displaying their company logo.

🏊‍♀️☀️ Good news! We’ve added afternoon pool hours this week so you can squeeze in a few more summer swims!

Beginning next week, the pool will transition to weekends only through Labor Day. As much as we’d love to keep the pool open during the week, many of our lifeguards are heading back to school, and lifeguards are required for the pool to operate safely.

Check out the calendar below for all remaining pool dates and hours, and come enjoy the last few weeks of pool season!
