Good evening. Sorry for the delay here, but Matt has an updated post focused on the rainfall forecast for Nicholas. We are escalating to a Stage 3 flooding event on our scale. But there is still considerable amounts of uncertainty. At this time, we favor areas south & east of Houston as most likely to see Stage 3 flooding in the Mon night-Wed window. But please keep checking with us for the latest. Eric will have an update in the morning. -Matt

When America was attacked 20 years ago, law enforcement and other public safety officers responded. Since then, more than 360 law enforcement officers have died and thousands sickened from the toxic and hazardous conditions during the rescue and recovery efforts. #NeverForget

We Will #NeverForget – NYPD Officer Moira Smith, 38, led countless injured people from the WTC. After this photo was taken, she went inside to help as many people as she could. Officer Smith was only female NYPD Officer to die on September 11. She left behind a husband and a 2-year-old daughter.

Trooper Gershon Joseph is quite an artist in his spare time. I saw his work & asked him to draw this picture of William Travis to place on loan in the Alamo Room in my office. I believe this may be the first artwork by a state trooper to be placed in the Capitol. #txlege

Two Houston gang members charged in the murder of a New Orleans police detective and wounding his friend insist that neither of them pulled the trigger during a botched daytime robbery at a restaurant.

Frederick Jackson, 19, and Anthony Jenkins, 21, said in separate police interviews that they were both in a getaway vehicle when Detective Everett Briscoe, 41, was fatally shot and Dyrin Riculfy was injured on Aug. 21 at the Grotto Ristorante near The Galleria shopping mall, KTRK-TV reported.

Harris County prosecutors revealed the information from court documents during separate court appearances by each defendant on Monday.

Both suspects said they were at the busy location targeting people for high-priced jewelry robberies and were inside a Nissan Altima while someone else committed the deadly robbery. Both have records for violent crimes and were out on bond for other cases at the time of the slaying.

Jenkins is charged with capital murder, attempted murder, tampering and fabricating evidence, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Jackson faces capital murder and attempted capital murder charges.

Both are in custody and a third person is being sought in connection to the killing. Bond hearings for the pair are scheduled for Wednesday.

Briscoe had just arrived in Houston from New Orleans with friends when they checked their bags into a hotel and walked over to the restaurant.

While they were on the restaurant patio, two men tried to rob the group and opened fire, prosecutors said. Briscoe, a 13-year police veteran and married father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was escorted to New Orleans last week and laid to rest.

Riculfy remains hospitalized in critical condition.

On Friday, Houston officials announced that both suspects had been taken into police custody. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said that "death is on the table," signaling she could seek the death penalty for both defendants.

Authorities said the pair was seen on security video stalking potential robbery victims in the area where the killing occurred. Ogg speculated that they could have been committing robberies to raise bail money for a friend.

HPOU IDA RELIEF

As we all know, our Brothers and Sisters to the east were hit pretty hard by Hurricane Ida. After Harvey hit us the Louisiana folks donated a bunch of product to us. It’s time to step up and return that favor.

Starting Tuesday (the 31st) at 10 am, the HPOU will start taking in your donations. We must consider it will be days before power is restored. We are asking for both men’s and ladies’ products that are new in the package. As we learned during Harvey, the main products needed are t-shirts, underwear, socks, baby wipes, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and feminine products. Please no used clothing or open products/boxes.

There will be a drop of point at the union set up start at 10 am an continue threw the week 24/7. If you are planning to make the meeting on Thursday, please go shopping first. Please reach deep in those pockets to support the fellow law enforcement officers in South Louisiana still out holding the line as we did after Harvey.

Any and all products will be delivered to impacted FOP Lodges in Louisiana.

It is a a relief that the killers of New Orleans Detective Everett Briscoe have been identified and charged, but it is sad to see that Detective Briscoe will be another name on Crime Stoppers of Houston's list of people murdered by Harris County criminals who were out on felony bond at the time of the crime. #HarrisCountyDeservesBetter #BailReformFailure

It is with a heavy heart that we have to make this post that this morning our police department lost one our own. Sergeant Kuo-sheng “Johnny” Wang. Johnny unfortunately, lost his battle with covid early this morning. Sgt. Wang started his career with the South Houston Police Department in 2001 and served our community for 20 years. He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, and a mentor to many at our police department. Please keep his family and his blue family in your thoughts and prayers during this devastating time.
