Huntsville, "The Rocket City", is located in North Alabama. The Huntsville Police Department is located near the City's downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, 427 sworn officers, 210 civilian personnel, and patrols an area of 213 square miles. The City of Huntsville, one of the fastest growing cities in the country, has a population of more than 190,000. Huntsville is governed by a mayor and a city council consisting of five council members elected by districts. The Huntsville Police Department is a "Professional Law Enforcement Organization" utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the "Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement" (CALEA). The Huntsville Police Department employs individuals of diverse backgrounds, education and experience. Candidates for employment are recruited from all areas of the country and from all walks of life. What could make Governors Drive safer?
The City of Huntsville, Alabama - Government wants to hear from you.

The City is hosting a public open house TODAY (Sept. 29) as part of its Governors Drive traffic safety study.

▪️WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 29
▪️TIME: 4–8 p.m.
▪️WHERE: The Gathering Place at First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Dr. SW

Residents can learn more about the study and share feedback on ways to improve safety along the 8.85-mile corridor for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders and others.

Huntsville Transit will offer free rides to and from the open house. The facility is ADA accessible.

🚨RUNAWAY ALERT🚨
The Huntsville Police Department is asking for the community’s help locating 14-year-old Jovanna Quetzaly Murillo.

The photo below was provided by Murillo’s family.

On Sept. 22, officers responded to the 3100 block of Doner Circle after Murillo was reported to have left the residence around 7 p.m. According to her family, she was carrying a backpack believed to contain additional belongings, and they believe she may have planned to leave the home.

As investigators continued working to locate Murillo, family members also told investigators that she may have been seen near the Shady Grove Mobile Home Park off Triana Boulevard on Friday, Sept. 25.

Investigators currently believe Murillo may be staying with friends in the area and has not returned home.

After 29 years of service, Captain Scott Widner is getting ready to retire from the Huntsville Police Department.

HPD and the City of Huntsville celebrated his career on Thursday, Sept. 24, with a retirement celebration attended by Mayor Tommy Battle, who spoke about Captain Widner’s years of service and dedication to our community.

From patrol and investigations to SWAT, training and leadership, his career has included a wide range of roles and experiences. But as he reflects on his time with HPD, he says the officers he worked alongside are what made the biggest impact.

🚨MISSING JUVENILE🚨
The Huntsville Police Department is asking for the community’s help locating 13-year-old Monserrat Lopez-Gomez.

The photos below were provided by Monserrat’s family.

Monserrat was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, after leaving her home to go to a friend’s house. Around 11 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Johnson Road after she was reported missing.

Monserrat is approximately 5’4” and weighs around 185 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Officers searched and canvassed the area Wednesday night. During the investigation, officers developed information indicating Monserrat may be with a friend who goes by the name “Jobbi.”

Investigators currently believe Monserrat left voluntarily.

HPD's Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers Coordinator, Officer Jansen, recently attended the Crime Stoppers USA Conference in Washington, D.C., celebrating 50 years of Crime Stoppers in the United States.

Officer Jansen and board member Tara Padilla represented Huntsville at the four-day conference, connecting with Crime Stoppers representatives from across the U.S. and around the world, including Canada, Australia and Guam.

The conference provided opportunities to learn about emerging crime trends, share best practices and discuss the future of Crime Stoppers programs. Attendees also met with elected officials to advocate for the continued ability of Crime Stoppers programs to provide cash rewards to anonymous tipsters.

Thank you to Officer Jansen and Tara for representing Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers and bringing new knowledge and connections back to our community.
