For children and families experiencing homelessness, stable housing can mean greater consistency, a stronger sense of community, and room to heal, learn, make friends, and grow.

Back to school means new classrooms, new routines, and new opportunities—but for some families, school is also an important connection to food, resources, and support. 🎒

On Unsheltered Conversations, Taylor Booth of HomeAid Southern Nevada and Justin Zaricki of Tri Pointe Homes share how school pantry projects are transforming unused classrooms into welcoming spaces where students and families can access essential resources with dignity.

Some roles come with a responsibility to speak up when someone may be experiencing abuse or neglect.

A mandated reporter—sometimes called a mandatory reporter—is a person legally required to report known or suspected abuse or neglect involving children, older adults, or dependent adults. Depending on state law, this may include social workers, healthcare professionals, teachers, and law enforcement officers.

Understanding terms like this helps us better understand the systems designed to protect people experiencing vulnerability—and how each part of the community plays a role.

Know the language. Understand the system. Help build safer, stronger communities.

What makes a place feel like home?

During a recent journey to Ethiopia, ZondaHome housing economist, Ali Wolf encountered communities that challenged the way she thought about stability, happiness, and belonging.

Her experience became a reminder that home is about more than four walls. It can also be the community around us, the relationships we depend on, and the feeling that we are rooted somewhere.

Understanding the challenges facing our communities is an important part of building better solutions.

HomeAid Chief Affiliate Officer Brenda Ketah recently attended the National Alliance to End Homelessness Conference in Washington, D.C., joining more than 1,600 advocates from across the country.

During the conference, Brenda took part in Capitol Hill Day, heard directly from service providers, and learned more about issues including Housing First, federal funding uncertainty, the growing number of seniors experiencing homelessness, and the importance of addressing the root causes of homelessness.

These conversations help HomeAid stay informed and better support our affiliate network and nonprofit partners as we work together to build a future without homelessness.
