Support Our Local Fire Companies — September 11th

On September 11th from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM, the Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency will be hosting a special community event in support of our local volunteer fire companies.

During the event, a portion of the proceeds from participating shops on Broadway will be donated to surrounding fire departments. This is a great opportunity to enjoy an evening downtown while giving back to the men and women who volunteer their time to protect our communities.

Members of our local fire companies will also have a table set up downtown selling department T-shirts, with proceeds going toward supporting our departments and their continued operations.

Throughout the evening, fire apparatus and members will be downtown so the community can see firsthand the equipment your donations help us maintain and operate. We want everyone to have the opportunity to meet the volunteers, check out the apparatus, and see where your support goes.

As we gather on September 11th, we also remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and countless others who answered the call that day.

We hope to see you downtown from 5–8 PM! Come out, support local businesses, meet your local firefighters, and help us continue to serve and protect our community.

This past weekend, members from both stations participated in a Pennsylvania State Pumps 1 course hosted by Carbon County EMA.

We are proud to announce that 8 of our members successfully completed the course and became state-certified pump operators!

Our members are committed to continually improving their skills and expanding their knowledge so that when the tones drop, we are prepared to handle any call that comes our way.

A huge thank you to Carbon County EMA and the instructors for providing our members with this valuable training opportunity.

At 2246 hours members were dispatched to 62 Panther run road for a report of a house fire in district 12 and 22’s area. 2204 arrived on scene and had a working fire. Members of 1151 and 1134 responded. 1151 was sent into the scene and split their crew and stood up as the RIT team and the remainder of the crew laddered the rest of the house. 1134 was directed to stage and send their crew to the seven for man power. Ultimately the fire was contained to the attic with some minor extension into rooms. Members were released at 2349 hours.

Monday afternoon members of both stations attended a fire prevention program for the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club Summer camp. Members spent the afternoon going over what we do as fireman and what to do in case of an emergency. The kids also got tours of all the fire trucks and even got some cool helmets to take home with them!

Line of Duty Death

The members would like to give our condolences to the Aquashicola Fire department for their loss they suffered today. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this trying time.
