This week, DOLWD Commissioner Cathy Muñoz, Deputy Commissioner Adam Weinert, Acting Special Assistant Becky Weimer, and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Director Kate Duder visited the Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Center supports Alaskans of any age that are experiencing vision loss to receive rehabilitation services and learn new skills for life and employment using assistive technologies.
The DOLWD team met with Center Executive Director Nate Kile to learn how the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation works closely with the Center to support Alaskans with vision loss. The Center’s Manual Skills Instructor, Kevin Whitley toured the team through the Center’s woodshop where clients get skills in woodworking, and practical home maintenance experience.

Join staff from DOLWD’s Alaska Labor Relations Agency and the Workers’ Compensation Division at the 3rd Annual Legal Career Fair & Reception on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Egan Convention Center in Anchorage!
Hosted by our friends from both the Alaska and Anchorage Bar associations and welcoming employers from around the state, this event offers a valuable opportunity to connect with employers hiring for a variety of positions in Alaska’s legal community.

All Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a national and state holiday commemorating June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, marking the effective end of slavery in the United States.

Department offices will resume normal operations on Monday, June 22.
