Providing safe housing for women experiencing housing insecurity has always been deeply important to GHS. We currently have 4 beds available, and weโ€™re working hard to expand capacity so we can better serve our community and meet growing needs.

Over the Fourth of July holiday, Bridget Monks, one of our case managers at Mount Juneau Counseling & Recovery, helped create a meaningful and supportive experience for residents in our Recovery House program by hosting a sober BBQ.

Recovery is about more than appointments and clinical goals โ€” itโ€™s also about connection, healthy relationships, and finding safe ways to celebrate together. Holidays can be especially difficult for many people, bringing stress, grief, isolation, or triggers. Creating spaces where residents can gather, share a meal, and enjoy community in a sober setting is an important part of that journey.

Weโ€™re grateful for Bridgetโ€™s compassion and initiative in making this event possible. Her work reflects what we value most: supporting recovery, strengthening community, and helping people build lives rooted in wellness and connection.

Say hello to Luis!

Luis started at GHS in February 2024 as a Resident Advisor and has been climbing the ladder ever since! He earned a promotion to Security Shift Supervisor, then leveled up again in December 2024 to Reentry Case Manager.

When he's not at work, you'll find Luis at Eagle Beach with his dog, gaming with friends, or rolling dice in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

What Luis loves most about his work is connecting with community partners, running Juno House, and working alongside the Department of Corrections to help residents successfully reenter the community. The Reentry Case Manager team is tight-knit and always has each other's backs.

His favorite quote? "It's another day in paradise" because even on tough days, there are always glimmers of joy and hope.

Luis works with residents from the Community Residential Center and Juno House to tackle whatever they need for success: landing jobs, accessing treatment, finding housing, and preparing for life after release. He partners with probation officers to keep residents on track and backs up security when needed.

What keeps Luis going? Knowing he gave it his all, the amazing people he works with, and the strong partnerships that make real change possible.

The Fourth of July brings celebration, fireworks, and community, but it can also challenge mental health. Loud noises and bright flashes may trigger anxiety or PTSD, especially for veterans or trauma survivors. Planning ahead, using ear protection, or finding quiet spaces can help reduce stress.

Social gatherings may also stir feelings of loneliness or grief. Itโ€™s okay to set boundaries, skip events, or celebrate in a way that feels comfortable. The holiday can be a reminder that caring for mental health is a form of independence, choosing peace, safety, and self-care is something to be proud of.

๐Œ๐ž๐ž๐ญ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ณ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐ญ, ๐’๐š๐ฆ ๐Š๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ค๐จ!

Sam has been brightening GHS for the past year. She started her journey as a behavioral health receptionist, but quickly realized her talents were calling her elsewhere. Just three months in, she transitioned to billing and compliance, and we haven't looked back since.

When she's not keeping our systems running smoothly, Sam is a master crocheter (seriously, her work is incredible). She also loves paddleboarding, soaking up the festival scene, and channeling her inner Rachel Ray in the kitchen, baking like she was born to do it.

One of Sam's favorite things about working at GHS? The diverse personalities and the solid sense of humor that comes with them. In her role specifically, nothing beats watching clients reach their goals and successfully graduate the program. Witnessing people arrive at the place they worked so hard to reach has been incredibly rewarding and heartfelt.

Sam's advice? Never let anyone make you feel bad or guilty for setting a boundary. People don't have to like your boundaries, but they do need to respect them. If they don't, that's their problem - not yours.

On any given day, you'll find Sam rocking funky fresh wear paired with fabulous glasses, and a smile on her face. GHS searched for a billing and compliance person for a long time, and we couldn't be happier to have found her!
