Temporary Road Closure is tonight (9/29/22) at 9 pm. The closure will affect both directions of traffic beginning at Edgemere Place (between the traffic signal at Hodgkins and the east bank of Lake Worth). The Oncor utility contractor will hold up traffic approaching the closure in both directions, and it will take them approximately 15 minutes to get their work done. Once it is safe, they will allow traffic on SH 199 in both directions to proceed as normal.

Do you have Hackberry Trees with green caterpillars?

Here’s what we know:
🐛This specific caterpillar, Sciota celtidella, is very host specific. It feeds only on hackberry leaves and does not feed on other types of trees or foliage.
🐛We first noticed the caterpillars in early August and they left; however, the heavy rains several weeks ago enabled hackberry trees to flush new growth leaves, which brought on a second wave of the caterpillars. In a short time, these caterpillars will turn into moths and be gone.
🐛We have been advised by several arborists that the best course of action is to let this run its course and the trees will recover. Rest assured the trees are alive and will sprout fresh green leaves.
🐛Today at Liberty Park, Park Operations staff saw very few live caterpillars, which indicates they should be gone soon. With wind and rain, the silk left behind will dry out or dissipate.
🐛Park Operations staff has been cleaning the parks daily. Sidewalks and playground spaces are clear from any debris from these insects. Staff will continue to clean the areas as needed.
🐛This caterpillar doesn’t have a common name, only its scientific name Sciota celtidella, and when it grows up it will be a small pyralid moth.
🐛We don’t see this caterpillar every summer. The last time was in 2015.

Boat Club Road from Shadydell to Azle Avenue has been closed to all traffic to facilitate a crash reconstruction. The roadway is expected to reopen at 11am. Please avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes.

Original Post: ROAD CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

Tomorrow, December 1, 2021 from 9am - 11am, Boat Club Road will be closed in all directions from Shadydell to Azle Ave. Crash reconstructionists will be working at the intersection of Boat Club Road at Rocky Point to reconstruct the crash that occurred on Saturday afternoon, killing Euless PD Detective Alex Cervantes.

Creating an accurate map of the crime scene is an important step in our criminal investigation. We understand that this will closure will negatively impact the commute of many people tomorrow morning, but we would greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as our team works to complete this crucial portion of the investigation.

The ripple effects of a tragedy like this linger for some time and tomorrow's closure is one of many examples of that. If you are negatively impacted by this closure tomorrow, please direct your frustrations toward its cause - impaired driving. You have our word that we will work as quickly and efficiently as possible to reopen the roadway. Updates will be posted throughout the morning.
